Hey Everyone im pretty new at this, but i was wondering if you guys talk about more Tap dance and Hiphop that maybe I dont know of, cause I cant seem to find any topics to relate to because im not a swing or salsa dancer. Im from Northern Ontario and I have danced since I was four but most Tap and hiphop and some Jazz and Modern. If anyone knows where I could find someone to talk to about these dance subjects, please let me know. Thank You

Hmm. I'll look around for some info. I believe there are also a few active DF members who have hip hop, jazz or trp backgrounds, and would love to chat. Maybe if we keep this thread active, some of them can find you. 8)

I believe that Damon teaches hip hop????????????

Hey, I did tap and jazz when I was younger (started when I was 3, quit when I was 9 or 10). I just got back into tap a few weeks ago, and I'm looking into starting hip hop and jazz. Feel free to hit me up on msn if you have any pointers ;)

It'll be good to have someone to give me some tips on everything I've forgotten. I actually talked to my old tap teacher last week, she said she's going to come watch my class tonight and yell at me if I'm not keeping my heels up.

I wondered how your class was going. And whether you'd had more interactions with your old friend from many moons ago ...

I've talked to her a few times at the studio, but I think it's about time for something a little more private ;)

Ok, hip hop dancing is out, all the classes are working on routines, and I'll be gone by the time it's time to perform them.

I'm starting ballet again, tuesdays and/or saturdays. My old tap teacher never showed up to watch my heels :(

Thank You

Thank you everyone for helping me out with my little problem. Ive gotten more replies than I thought I would. Its amazing how wonderful some people are. Ive been in tap since I was four, and to date I still think that the most important things in any type of dancing is to know how to count and know how to follow the music. With tap..your heels are very important to keep up and your tones and pitches of your taps are very important. You may also want to make sure you have clear sounds and you do not scratch the sounds. My dance teachers always said to sound like one dancer not like many dancers. You should sound insync. For hiphop, ive heard many dance classes saying that you cant count for hiphop but you can, its just more challenging, its actually helps, it may be easier for me because ive counted all my life. And Jazz, well jazz is just amazing but its alot like the rest with the counting and following the music. Again thank you for all your replies.

So far we've got keep my heels up, and make sure I'm not making scratchy tap sounds :)

I have a feeling when you say "hiphop" dance you are reffering to the stuff that you see in R&B videos? I apologize if my assumption is off point...if you happen to be looking for discussion on the other type of HipHop dancing then I suggest visiting the Mr. Wiggles HipHop forums at http://pub16.ezboard.com/bmrwiggleshiphop and the Rocksteady forums at http://pub19.ezboard.com/brocksteadycrew96459...and one more http://www.bboy.org/forums/.

Also some other great sites about HipHop dance...most of these don't have discussion boards though...
