Why Dance Forums?

Just curious. Why do you participate in dance forums? How does it help you? Just entertainment purposes? Sharing information? Other? What motivates you to click to this site (or other dance sites) and watch, or chime in with your two cents worth?

helps me -- informative, entertaining, enjoy sharing my passion with others.... I may chime in with more detaisl later on...

I participate in dance forums because none of my co-workers are dancers, and my job has down times. I could be reading about science, and planning more experiments, but this is way more fun.

I feel like i'm getting to know other like-minded dance addicts, and that is a good feeling.

I was never a serious dancer and probably never will be. I have no interest in competing but I love to watch competitions. I took a few discount ballroom lessons and did some inexpensive group classes back in college. I got caught up in the swing dance craze in the late 90's and looking back on that and all my other dance experience, I'm quite the heathen compared to others on DF.

Thats what I love about DF. For me it's sort of living vicariously. I like to read the discussions about proper frames, dance shoes, routines, etc. I laugh when I think about the crazy bunch of fools I used to dance with. We all wore whatever thrift store or "vintage" outfit we could piece together and rubber or hard sole Dr. Martins or something similar. (there were a few with nice suits and maybe a pair of Stacy Adams) Our dance venues were often old warehouses with concrete floors. Had they ever raised the lights in those places, I probably would have been creeped out. Our dance moves came from what we copied from movies or a variation something that someone had learned in another town. We were quite the motley bunch.

We certainly had a LOT of fun and I do miss those days but it's also so great to be able to listen (or read rather) about what else there is out there. I live in a really small town now and the dance opportunities are few and far between. In between watching dance movies, reading DF takes me back to my dancing days and inspires me to search out the type of dancing I never really got to experience. Serious dancing if you will, the kind where the right shoes and proper steps actually matter. :D

In less than a month of reading, I've already learned so much. :D Thanks for tutoring and providing me with enthusiasm y'all.

The prospect of teasing you, NeoDevin, SD, MapleLeaf, Boriken, Sabor, Vince, Spitfire (and everyone else!) of course

I found DF by accident and I love the knowledge, discipline in how/where things are posted, the friendliness and that most of the words used are either under or over four letters   Usually it is a thread that converts me from a lurker to someone who can't shutup  In this instance, blame Spitfire for the post on Calypso

Oh, one added plus/disadvantage is that there are the other dance forums also, and they have brought back memories that were buried  :D

(I haven't been able to find anyone willing to buy my IRU membership card as yet though  )

I love sharing my passion with others. Sharing information is a great way to help your own dancing as well as assist others. A great source of information!

Well the main one is coming to a place where I know there are other people who share my love and infatuation with dance :D :D :D

Knowing that if I share an acheviement everyone is happy for me and understands how much work Ive had to put into it.

I love getting and reading everyones different oipnions on the same topic.

Theres lots of useful information everywhere I look and I have been able to apply it to my dancing which I have no doubt improved upon :D

Well, I started out asking a question, stuck around because people were very helpful, as well as fun to chat with. It's good to know I have somewhere I can ask and get a variety of opinions on whatever I need to know, and hopefully on questions of technique at least one of the answers will be right ;)

I know what you mean ShyDancer. I can share a dancing achievement with my friends, but no matter how hard they try, they cannot begin to really understand what it means and how much work has gone into achieving it.

Thank you to DF!

All of the above!

The posts and explanations that different dancers have put on the forum have been great--you learn a lot just by reading what everyone does. And I've found you learn a lot by answering questions too--it actually helps me get more clear in my head whenever I respond to someone else's question on DF.

Plus you gotta love all the Aussies!

Me too! Plus what I wrote in my thread "What does DF mean to you?" (which everybody ignored  .......) so I will re-post it here:

Ok, most of us active posters are addicts , no doubt.

I've just realised how therapeutic this forum has become for me. In a way, it's like an interactive journal, where we are able to share our (mostly dance-related) thoughts and get feedback/support from fellow dancers around the world. All the while staying in front of you pc in a relatively annonymous way.

What does it mean to you?

(are you wondering how we ever got by without it?)

Yay! Does that mean you are part of the tour downunder as well....? (see 'If you could dance with any "famous" salsero/a' thread under 'salsa')

I missed your thread. I didn't intentionally ignore it. It's getting harder and harder to keep up, these days. Sorry.

Well, that would depend on whether you would save me a dance. And Shy Dancer and Dancin Feet and the rest of you wild Aussie ladies....
