The UGLIEST costumes you've ever seen!

Seems like a slow day on the boards, plus a lot of us have just returned from either Embassy or Windy City, and I'm sure you've all got your fair share of "ugly costume" stories. So let's hear 'em! :spam:

One of the worst I've ever seen was at my very first collegiate competition back in 2003. A girl from another school was wearing the most ghastly Pepto-Bismol pink crushed velvet dress...it looked like her mother had whipped it up for her in an hour or so using an old Redbook pattern and a manual sewing machine. It had all sorts of weird cutouts and a Nehru jacket neck, and let's just say it was...ill fitting  I swore that moment never to wear 1) velvet, and 2) that shade of pink to a comp...EVER. Edit that - ever in MY LIFE.

Worst costume I've seen anybody wear was a lady's Latin costume that had a large blue eyeball on each breast. I was like,

EWWW! Was it for some type of showdance or exhibition? Or just for regular competition?

I saw a competitor on the floor wearing it at a regional competition a year or so ago. :???:

she was high when she did a dress???

Just thought of another one...a Latin pro/am competitor at OSB in '04 had on by far, the TINIEST costume I have ever seen. Picture a pair of low-rise boyshorts, a bra, and a scarf attaching them. YIKES! It wasn't necessarily ugly, but it was just so...REVEALING  And when her pro took her down into a split, the entire spectator section in Battelle Hall was assaulted with a view of her, ahem, "nether regions". WARDROBE MALFUNCTION!!!!

Oh, yea. I heard it was made out of a Victoria's Secret bra and panties!

You saw it too?! LOL...I thought I was going nuts for a minute, no one else I was with at the time seems to remember it. I don't know how they could have forgotten it

It seems like homemade costumes tend to be asking for trouble, no?

I take it there's no video... :p

I'm just glad the feathers fad died out. Back when our studio did its first comp about 8 years ago, there was one lady who had a Latin outfit that was covered in feathers. When she did a cha-cha, it was like a fog descended on the room... we had to sweep the floor after each heat she danced in.

And in tbe interest of fairness, I'll tell one on the guys... A comp I went to a couple of years ago, there was a guy dancing smooth who had the absolute loudest jacket I've ever seen. It was the color of Dorothy's ruby slippers, and totally covered in sequins. And he had on a multi-colored plaid shirt underneath it. I was sorely tempted to walk up to him and ask him what club he was appearing at that week, and whether or not there was a two-drink minimum. :p

Aaaaggghhhh! Too funny!

Now that we're picking on the guys...I hate it when a guy dresses in one color (besides black, and sometimes brown) head-to-toe to match his partner! It looks so darn goofy :uplaugh: I once saw a man in an entire hot pink costume (yes, even his SHOES) to match his partner. I wondered if he did that voluntarily, or if his partner had held his "man parts" hostage :bandit:

I agree completely. I always cringe when I see the man completely in an odd color.
