Video Games

Just curious. Does anybody here besides me play video games? What kind? At home, or at the arcade?

(and Dance Dance Revolution doesn't count. LOL)

I do Tetris. I've been hooked since I first played, back in the late 80's sometime. I'm totally hopeless at almost any other game, althuogh I've tried. And when I'm at the arcade, I don't do video games. I play whack-a-mole. No fooling.

It's been years since I've been to the arcade. (Note to self:Must do that soon.) I could never play games like pacman, never got into it for some reason. I used to play games like Tempest and hang out at the pool tables. I do the computer games like Spades, Scrabble, Jeopardy, BlackJack, Pandora's Box and other puzzle games online. :)

I only play games at home these days and they're all on PC (until I can put money aside for an Xbox). Favourites include Unreal Tournament, Medal of Honour or most other first person shooters. I also like strategy games and word games.

I had a major problem with Tetris for a while there - I had one of those hand-held Gameboy rip-offs that just had Tetris on it but I just couldn't leave it alone! I had to throw it away in the end as I'm sure I was getting OOS from pushing those little buttons over and over... That game is totally addictive. :o

I spend way too much time playing computer games ... perhaps this should be on the procrastination thread ... I'm a sucker for Minesweeper, this game called "Same", and right now I can't seem to stay away from Spider Solitaire. I need to get a life, maybe I'd better go out dancing

I've always enjoyed using MAME (Multi Arcade Machine Emulator). You can play virtually every video game that was ever made on your computer. Some of my favorites are Mr. Do, Dig Dug, Pitfall, Street Fighter, Jungle King, Ms. Pacman, Galaga, Congo, Track and Field, Galaxian, etc. (the list goes on and on)

Currently I have only MS flight sim 2004.

I can't do anything but play games if they are installed (first person shooters in particular!!)

So to save my job, relationship, and free time (what little I have), I deleted them all except fs2004 which is more a piloting tool than a game.

Know the feeling well. Scary thing is I get home from dancing and it might be 10.00pm but i'll turn the PC on and have a 'quick game.'
I knew a guy who was a senior manager in a company. He took a week off after buying an XBox when it was first released just so he could get some game time in. How very sad.

I love pinball on the PC..I spend hours trying to beat my own scores

Other than that its GameCube or Playstation2 with my SO, we sit up half the night playing the silly games...Vice City in paticular..Im rather adept at running pedestrians over

I have a Playstation 2 and a Nintendo 64   . Gamecube is on the wish list for later this year.

Nintendo has a lot of proprietary, Nintendo-only games. So I think I'm going to have to break down and buy the Gamecube. Arrrgh!

I simply cannot believe the amount of you DF people that play video games! For shame! I would never, ever, ever do such a thing! :snake:

Man, I'm full of it...  :P

SG

Hmm...wait a minute...I do seem to recall taking 2nd place in a college wide Street Fighter tournament many years ago...

Nobody went for the whack-a-mole hint? :D  Well, I guess that makes sense, because whack-a-mole is completely mechanical -- not a video game.

Whack a mole is an arcade game where you use a mallet to hit mechanical moles that pop up from "underground" unexpectedly. Your score depends on how many moles you whack. I'm really good at it. And the stress relief is unparalleled!  8)

pygmalion, be very careful of this game. From memory, it is the netbus trojan so, although the game may be fun, you might also compromise your system. If you still have it on your PC I would recommend deleting it then running your antivirus program.

Back in the day we used to go into an arcade and put one quarter into Stargate, then alternate playing ships for as long as we felt like. Also did pretty well with Tempest and Joust.

I spend all day at work in front of a computer, the last thing I want to do in my personal time is more of the same.

I do have a couple of PC games, but very rarely play them as before you know it, 3-4 hours will have passed by. I have too much dancing to do to spend that amount of time playing a computer game!

Sorry to be the ever-pedantic one (wait, you don't know that about me yet ... damn, my secret identity revealed! :? ) but I think the entire point of Pyg's post here was that she plays the mechanical, arcade version of the game, not the PC version, but we've all just gone off on our PC-game rambles and hijacked the topic! (Sorry if I'm wrong about that Pyg).

I do know the whack-a-mole game - the mechanical version - and I am lamentably terrible at it. However, when it comes to arcade games, I'm the Pinball Wizardess. 8) I do enjoy the PC version but find it a bit boring compared to the "real thing". :)
