First showcase - waltz practice...

I'm so excited!!! :p

I'll be doing my first showcase at the end of Dec. I will decide for sure tomorrow but most likelky I will do waltz. I will talk to my instructors this week about more details but I also wanted to check with you - THE EXPERTS!.. Other than choreography, how do practice by yourself to get better at waltz? With latin it's the cuban motion.. With Waltz I am not sure how to practice at home...

Obviously, first learn the routine - make sure you can seamlessly do the steps. then try to do it in position while keeping your ballance. The key is to be connected enough to be resposive to your partner without being 'heavy'. However, lots of stuff has to be done as a pair - there are all sorts of dynamics to be worked out.

Settling into the hips and the forward/ backward step action.
 
Foot strength exercises to help you control your rise and fall. My favorite is slow toe raises--a slow 8-count up, hold for 8, down for 8. It's the slow down that really works your foot and gives you control, so don't cheat on that part.

I like these. I need to get back to doing them because my footwork and use of my legs and feet (and well everything) has been ATROCIOUS lately.:)
 
Allright! A waltz is always a favorite in my book!

Yes, forward and backwards steps are good practice stuff.
