How do you deal with sleazy dancers?

Here's a question raised by a very good Edie article that Phil Owl posted in another thread.

We've all seen them, I'm sure. The people who take their "flava" a bit too far, and end up doing all sorts of really sleazy moves on the floor -- simulated sex acts are a fave for these folks, it seems. It's not about salsa, anymore. It's about shock value. It's not fun to watch, anymore, either . It just gets sleazy.

I assume you're not one of those sleazy dancers, so how do you deal with them? Ignore them? What does the salsa community feel about these people who just don't know how to act? Are they giving salsa a bad name?

That's about all you can do. I can't say I've seen anything that sleazy in a salsa club. That could be because 1) I'm always dancing or 2) It takes a lot to shock me. I mean I came from hip-hop!

LOL. I don't know if ignoring them is the only option. I've seen some pretty impressive moves from Latin ladies, enforcing their cliques. You could always make them feel so uncomfortable that they just go away.

Are they giving salsa a bad name, do you think?

Hmm, I'd say they are giving themselves a bad name mostly. Every dance has its good and bad folks...honestly I've met more sleazy people in Ballroom venues than in Salsa. I mostly ignore them, but like others said, it takes a lot to shock me...but I used to be in a co-ed frat group in college and that's all I will say about that!

I just don't see the sleaze. Mostly in my experience, people are way too uptight on the floor--need to loosen up, it's dancing, it's supposed to be a little sexy.... 8)

Yes, but you're an actor, and being "saucy" is part of your job! ;)

There's a very fine line between sleaze and sauce- on the dance floor, that is!

I ignore the sleazy ones, too. They're only embarrassing themselves, and building a bad reputation, too. Not many people will want to dance with those types once they've seen what kind of "dancing" they do. Unless it's another sleazeball, then it would be mutual sleaziness.

Mutual Sleaziness...that sounds like a movie title...or a really bad sitcom!

Yes indeed, a little saucy or sensual is nice...but when ones intent is in the gutter it can turn to trashy really quick. But if that's your thing, then hey go for the mutual sleaziness, have a sleazy wedding, raise some sleazy kids...and better yet, open up your own family business:

The Sleazy Family Robinson! We sleaze to please! :D :P

Hmm, I don't recall having any alcohol last night...but maybe that's one of the reasons I can't remember...

Yuck! Sleaziness is disgusting!

I mean, there's nothing wrong with flirting or playing on the dance floor, but explicit sexual moves... no way!!!

I keep those for private times, if you know what I mean... 8)

so the message becomes..

sleazy in private.. not sleazy in public?

hmmm..ok, i'll write that on the back of my hand so i always remeber

Dont know what you mean Sabor ?

My opinion is that yes Salsa can be and is sexy, but it is also a game. And I hope it should stays that way. Certain things can be simulated, like for example when it seems like you are going to kiss a girl when you do an arm curl over your or her head, then you continue dancing ...... you don't kiss her. But dont we all know this.

I also think that it is a mutual agreement between men and women when they dance together, the guy is flirting with the lady, and the lady flirts back. And thats where the book stops.

If Salsa became only an excuse to put your hands all over each other, then Salsa would die fast. You can do that without dancing salsa.
