Holiday

I heard an interesting statistic on the radio this morning. 72% of Americans don't know why we have a "Memorial Day", and don't know what it is meant to celebrate/commemorate. Given that this is an American holiday I'm wondering how many people reading this forum don't know what Memorial Day means. Do you know?

In the US, it is Memorial Day. Here in the UK, it is "May Bank Holiday" (for Enquiring minds  the first and last Mondays in May are always Bank/Public Holidays :D

I believe that it is also a holiday in France too.

Have a good long weekend everyone

 I heard/read that public holidays here are called 'Bank Holidays' because traditionally, only employees of banks would get the day as holiday and then eventually, it expanded to everyone :D

It is a classic example of 'You say, I say'

I know this forum is not political, so I won't give my own opinions. But 60 Minutes, one of my favorite TV shows, just broadcast the picture of every American soldier killed in Iraq. I guess they didn't have the time and/or the pictures to show everyone else from other countries.

I pray that God will protect and strengthen the families of everyone around the world who has lost someone, friend or family, in this war and in the many ongoing conflicts around the world.  That's what Memorial Day is all about. :?
