My biggest problem with dancing is ...

I know we're all dance-loving people, but every once in a while, even we come across, uh, bumps in the road. So what kinds of bumps have there been in your dancing road, and how did you overcome them or cope with them?

It has been, and continues to be trying to overcome my inherent introverted nature both social dancing and in dance competition.

This was a bump in the road for me...

I left a scene where I had lots and lots of friends, and was comfortable with the style of the majority.

I moved to a new much bigger scene and had to cope with all sorts of new issues. It took a little while - especially learning who I get along with and who I don't, and I'm feeling pretty happy and comfortable in my new scene.

Looks like I'm going to go thru the same thing again later this month!

Well, you will be better prepared this time around, and if you can hook up with any df members it will be even easier. :)

my biggest problem, not just with dancing but with everything else as well, is that i'm incredibly sensitive and very emotional. a lot of things can make me lose focus on things, even things that i love. when i get in a very emotional state for any reason or when i get depressed or something, it makes it really hard for me to focus on dancing as well as other stuff. but i'm glad that i force myself to dance because in the end, i feel so much better and i begin to want to dance rather than to force myself

Quite right - and I want to thank Borikensalsero for extending the offer!

I don't think I can give a one to N list of problems, but here are a few things I've experienced.

A perfectionist personality which stops me from enjoying my achievements
The fact that my closest loved ones don't dance or understand why I want to
Not enough time to do every dance thing I want
Not enough money to do every dance thing I want
Intimacy of the dance "relationship" complicates everything
The impossible dream of dance excellence keeps moving further away
Finding and keeping a good teacher is difficult

Ditto!

I also find that wanting to learn and do what I see dancers who have been dancing for 10 years doing is a major "bump" for me because I know I need to know the solid basics first before moving onto advanced moves, They look like so much fun! And every so often I will get a guy who teaches me a thing or 2 from silver or gold levels and then everything Im learning just seems so plain :?
This is the same reason I feel "held back" at times, even though I can clearly see how far ahead I am of some others at my level... thats another thing..My self driven need to be the best I can be, and as fast as I can be.

never getting to do anything decent in front of an audience because of assigned partners who don't care at all about these dance styles.

Not getting enough of dance. :(
Ditto. And my recent injury has also forced me to take it easy (dancing only when asked instead of trying to dance almost every song). I'm finding it very difficult to sit and watch other people dance.

I feel like I get enough only because I go ahead & fire up the cd's and do the stuff without a follower. Yep, I stand there & polish the imaginary halo, which happens to also be on an imaginary follower. I guess ghosts and 4th dimention reptilians  aren't into the hustle or lindy hop, or one of them would've joined me by now.
