Bronze vs. Silver vs. Gold Championships

Hi all,

I tried searching for this topic in previous threads and came up unsuccessful so i apologize if the topic has already been discussed. Admittedly i had trouble figuring out key words for searching...

I dance mostly pro/am Amer. style FYI, and i just began silver level recently, planning my first (silver level) comp in a few months. In the bronze championships i have participated in, they were always 3-dance championships as follows:
rhythm: ch/r/esw
smooth: w/t/f

Now that I am moving on to silver, I am curious if the championships will continue to be 3-dance, or become 4-dance... ?? I would have presumed 4-dance but i thought i recalled seeing only 3-dance silver champs in the program at my last comp. This would be strange to me, considering gold champs usually are 5-dance (in rhythm?), i believe? although i could be mistaken.... also, does whether its pro/am or am/am make a difference??

Any help clearing up this confusion would be greatly appreciated. Obviously i am mostly interested in Amer. style but international style info is also appreciated, although im not sure it makes a difference.

thanks :)

TD, it depends entirely on the comp. As one example, the Heritage Classic's scholarships are 3 dances in all styles in bronze and silver, and then jumps to all dances in open. At the other end of the spectrum, the Atlanta Open, however, has all 5 (or 4 for smooth) dances even in bronze. Some comps are in between--3 dances in bronze, 4 in silver, and all dances in open. So it depends on the comp.

Right, we dance American Smooth and Josh is correct that it really depends on each competition. What we have seen is that the Vwaltz is dropped to make it a 3 dance at some competitions.

What we do is that we work the 4 dances equally so there is no concern or have to put in mad dash work if a competition changes up the dances.

Bingo here too. Danced Am. Smooth for several years in Silver and it really depended on the competition (organizer). Just read the entry forms carefully. We had developed the 4 smooth dances equally. It seemed Am. Smooth, VWaltz was consistently the one dance that either was in or not for a competition.
