Ray Charles

Our DJ tonight at the swing dance was thoughtful enough to play Ray's "One Drop Of Love" in tribute, and end the evening with "America the Beautiful".

What a sad thing. He was only 73, which is way too young to go. :(

My fave R.C. song? Hit the Road, Jack. Totally cool. I still quote that to my friends and family, jokingly, when they're annoying me. Somehow, those words just fit when no others do.

Yup. He did it first, I think, but I know for sure he did it best! (Him and the Raylettes, his backup group from the 60's  )

I can remember so many good dances I had to the music of Ray Charles, among my faves were "Smack Dab In The Middle", "Them That Got", "Rockhouse" "One Mint Julep" (killer cha-cha BTW!) and so many others.

I miss Ray something fierce!

My mother listened to him a lot when I was young. I could identify him on the radio as long as I can remember. But when I was a teenager and saw him in the Blues Brothers movie, I really enjoyed and appriciated his music and he as an artist. It is amazing that such a ridiculous movie could actually spark interest in that genre of music again. He has always been a top entertainer and musician, but to achieve so much and be blind and black, that is really tantimount to his being. And to be so well known across so many generations, even Elvis is more of a joke now with young people due to the commercialization of his image in Vegas.

When most people give up for whatever reason, he inspires us all that we can achieve our own goals regardless of our present situation. Being a minority and blind, he found something within himself learn to play the piano, write music, sing songs in a way that only he can sing them. He had a reason to sing the Blues, but made us all happier when we heard him play.

I think we will all miss him, but like someone posted before, he will live forever in our hearts, and so will his music.

I've been hearing him on the radio a lot this week. Totally cool, because I'm hearing songs I'd forgotten he made. Yup. He was cool.

What was that 80's era Pepsi commercial? You've got the right on, ba bay. (I think :? :?:  ) Now that's Ray Charles. 8) Surrounded by beautiful females, of course.

Yep! That commercial said more about Ray Charles, then it said about the soda company, yet I bet it helped their sales!

(And who were those women anyway? What would googling tell us?) ;)
