Two-step?

No one over here seems to teach C&W dancing, that I know off!! :( Now for latin dances, ballroom dances, swing dances...I know of websites where I can find clips of the basics and a couple moves, plus also sites where the basic is described. Since C&W two-step is seems to be popular everywhere can anyone help me out with links to websites which will help me get started so that when I go C&W I can jump right in?

I'm trying to find some sites with video clips on two step for you Sagitta, but no luck so far. FWIW the basic of Progressive 2 Step is just walking foward at the timing of quick, quick, slow, slow. Country Waltz is also done by walking forward just FYI.

Yes. That's the gentleman's part. It does seem to be hard to find clips. Basically, the challenge is in the arms. The follow (no, I'll say lady, since I've NEVER seen a female leading in a country bar.) The lady basically uses the gentleman's arms as home base. In the very basic basic, just do foxtrot steps around the floor in line of dance. It goes quickly. VERY quickly.

The next step up is to add underarm turns for the lady. If the lady is a beginner, lead the turns on the slows. If she's more advanced, she'll be able to do the turns on the quicks.

Once you get beyond that, there are a lot of cool arm wraps you can do, simultaneously getting the lady into different dance positions -- side by side, with both lady and gentleman moving forward is a popular one. 8)

I can't seem to find any clips . . .

The counts are just as described above . . . Q, Q, S, S . . . or 1, 2, 3, -5.

The trick to Two Step is knowing how and when to give a prep . . . many, many moves are "prepped" on the last slow . . . oh, one final tip . . . you need to settle in on the last slow . . . meaning fully complete that last S before starting to move the body for the next Q . . . I count it (if I count): Q, Q, S, "I'm done" . . . reminding me to complete that last S and settle in.

I have no trouble with the dance in competition, I only struggle socially with the dance . . . to me, it's just one of those dances that is difficult to execute and look good doing . . . while socially talking . . .

While SOMEONE may eventually find clips for this 2004 ! thread, I thought it would be cool to share this bit I heard on NPR yesterday. It's from an interview with Kacey Musgraves. I liked her "Blowin' Smoke" for West Coast Swing. And there's that Are you sure this is where you want to be with a surprise guest.

"I wound up in Austin one night and I went out to a super divey dance hall and there was a live country band playing. It was really nice to see so many different kinds of people having the best time decked out in their western wear. It was hot Latino couples, it was hot Black cowboys, it was older white cowboys dancing with younger cowgirls, and everybody was having such a good time dancing with each other. I was like, "Damn, America needs to two-step together. America needs to be on the dance floor." It's really a great equalizer, and it's where your differences sort of melt away, and the one goal is to connect via music and have fun and move your body. It made me really inspired to infuse some of that Texas dance hall feeling and rhythms into the record."
