I know that supercalafragalisticexpealadocious is not considered to be a "real" word, but is rather a made up word from Mary Poppins. I was wondering about the longest words in the English language. Someone once told me the longest word was...
antidisestablishmentarianism which is a political philosophy that is opposed to the separation of church and state.

Do you know of any other long words?

I could have sworn antidisestablishmentarianism was deposed as the longest word a few years back. Some strain of bacteria or something. I don't remember exactly. Maybe I'll google later, after others get a chance to post their whopper words.

Personally, I suspect that, after about fifteen or sixteeen letters, people are just adding stuff on randomly to break the record ...

And in today's news

Long-winded village name protest

The name that never seems to end starts here...

Campaigners are giving their village the longest place name in the UK of 66 letters in a protest at plans for a wind farm nearby.

People in Llanfynydd in Carmarthenshire are changing signs to read Llanhyfryddawelllehyn-afolybarcudprindanfygy-thiadtrienusyrhafnauole.

It means "a quiet beautiful village, an historic place with rare kite under threat from wretched blades".

Welsh.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch, which I believe is the current longest place name, also belongs to Wales
