I just read on the Salsa Forum website something about ladies in salsa seeming to prefer black shoes over the flesh colours favoured by ballroom/latin dancers.

Ladies - which colour do you prefer?

Guys - which colour have you noticed most ladies tend to wear? Which colour do you tend to wear?

Personally, I tend to go for any colour other than black because I did find a lot of women were wearing black shoes and I didn't want to be a pink flamengo*, although I didn't realise it at the time :?

* as per SalsaRhythms thread

I always thought that red shoes were perfect for dancing Salsa in. A pair of high-heeled strappy dance sandals. Where else in your life could you wear something like that? Go for it!

I guess black goes with more outfits. I made the comment I think on the other board as I find I sell 2x as many black shoes to salseras than flesh

Tasche, I agree with you - black does go with more outfits. In fact, I would say that it goes with EVERYTHING :D

I used to wear black also, until I made the realisation  that a lot of women were wearing black AND the same style of shoe. We haven't got, IMO, a wide selection of well made, non ballroom/latin dance shoes to choose from here in the UK. Therefore, a lot of women were going for a flamenco style supplied by a dance shop in London. It also coincided with a time when I was looking to buy shoes, therefore I then went for the only other colour the shop had in the same style, which was tan/neutral. I have rarely wore black since. :D

I have since bought a couple of pairs of latin dance shoes, both in tan/neutral as the dance shop mentioned above were unable to supply that particular style for about 3 years?! :? I recently went back and found that they were not going to be supplying them at all anymore. So, in the intervening years, I was forced to find an alternative and am very happy that I tried the latin dance shoes as I am so happy with them

I have three pairs of dance shoes, one black strappy (semi-retired -- now only used for tango), one black "chrocodile skin" short boots and my favourite, glittery gold strappy. I'm thinking about buying a new pair in the same style as my gold pair but in red and black.

Now I am usually dancing in street shoes that are comfortable and go with the dance floor, but the dance shoes that I had were high-heeled silver strappy sandals. :)

I wear silver sandals, heels 8 cm high... :) I also dance in street shoes at times (the comfy ones)... and I do not like black sandals!

I wear black shoes sometimes. Sometimes I dance bare foot and sometimes I dance with flip flops (black or blue or...) Oh, yes...sometimes I dance in sneakers... I guess I just dance in whatever my mood tells me to dance in. I dance with bare feet usually when the person whom I am dancing with is going bare footed as well. It's lovely on shag carpet, though it isn't as great on a dance floor in a club - all sorts of icky stuff all over. :(

I'm all about BLACK shoes -- in fact, my street shoes are primarily black too. They go with everything. Boots, sandals, dress shoes, whatever.

My salsa shoes have a leather sole, so I can wear them as street shoes, but they are black. Love em.

I am getting a pair of red leather salsa shoes though -- but it will be more of a wardrobe challenge! They would be great for tango -- I may have to take it up soon ;-)

Yikes!!! Looks like I messed up the poll  I didn't do the black - female option correctly! Oh man! This is the third time! Looks like I need more practice! :(

Another question about salsa shoes -- open or closed toes?

All my dance shoes are closed toe types because:
1. I have ugly toe nails  and don't like the idea of painting them -- I DETEST nail varnish.
2. Considering the amout of time I get stood on, closed toes seem sensible (steel-reinforced toes may be even better ).

In salsa, closed toe shoes seem quite popular -- agree?

I have 2 pairs of silver (high heels, open toe), 2 pairs of gold(high heel, open toe), a very strappy tan pair(high heel), a white satin 1" open toe and 2 pairs of Bloch jazz shoes- in black & white. Most of the women here have either silver or gold shiny leather open-toe("cuban") and most of the men have black dance shoes while a few have black & white wing tips.

I never see people dancing in closed toe shoes for salsa! The most popular style(in Asia, anyway) is the open-toe cuban. Have a look at what Liz Lira et al are wearing! Mac- aren't you afraid of getting bunions? I think any woman's feet look pretty bad if not well-pedicured and painted. When I wear my jazz shoes I don't have to worry about the paint job but for parties I always put on a bright color!

I agree with cocodrilo that I've never seen people wearing closed toe shoes for salsa! Open toe and/or the strappy ones are the more popular down here!
