Night Fever Tango Hustle?

After reading the post on the steps for the "Night Fever Line Dance" it reminded me of another scene in the movie. The scene took place in the dance studio where they were rehearsing to "More Than a Woman" from Tavares.

I have been looking for some dance instructions on how to do the Tango Hustle, but in the 70's people didn't really think to document all of the derivative steps from the Hustle. They were just enjoying dancing it!

I did find on the web directions to a Country Western Line dance that was taken from the Tango Hustle, but it's not exactly what I am looking for.

Does anyone have any references to these steps either in book or video form?

Thanks

There are a couple websites that might have some info listed in the Latin hustle thread in the ballroom forum. Hope that helps. You're right. There's not a lot of hustle documentation out there.

That "tango hustle" from the Saturday night fever movie never really existed, I mean, outside the movie. When the movie released, it spurned a few attempts of people trying to make money off it, but the real hustle dancers didn't want anything to do with it (thank god) and that was pretty much the end of it. You can find only the very rarest references to it on line, or on the back of a K-Tel album of the day. Again, all profiteering efforts.

I couldn't agree more! A while back I gave a couple beginning Hustle lessons for a group I dance at and occasionally DJ for too, and I VERY emphatically stated that if you wanted to see real examples of Hustle, DO NOT watch Saturday Night Fever, a treasure trove of bad information. Boy did I get some odd looks. And o course, when someone asked about the "Tango Hustle", they were genuinely shocked to find out it was something specifically made up for the movie.
