ok i just got back home and i'm EXHAUSTED. anyway i went to a salsa latin night on saturday night while i was there. i didnt dance at all but i observed. i got there for the end of it. i was shocked at what i saw. a whole bunch of flash and trash. these people have zero techinique. and it seemed like they all knew teh same patterns and cheroagrphy. do people really dance like this across the country. i have only been exposed to ballroom salsa and my local dance scene. it just amazed me.
let me explain what i mean now. they had no feel for the timing or the style of the dance. they had no idea what latin motion was or prolyl even cared to know. they did however have some cool moves, but without the rest it looked dumb. almost freestyle and hustle but to latin music. what i was told was this was the hottest club in town for latin and all teh top dancers come to dance because its a live band. i guess i was really disaapointed.

yeah gold coast. i just left rain over at the palms and was super hungry. gold coast has that good steak and eggs. so i headed over there. i really wanted to stay at rain longer but my buddy cant handle his alcoholl.

I'm getting ready to go to Vegas in a couple weeks myself...

Were there any clubs you would recommend?

I have heard from some of my friends that when they danced in Vegas, they really took the clubs by storm. They said the people there had never seen anything like the way they danced. I think it must just be a Vegas thing.

The only nights I know about for sure are Fri-Gold Coast, Sat -SRO Club. I can't say I've really seen many good salseros out there though.

A couple of years ago, I went to a class in Vegas. There were only 3-4 students there!

I didn't care for the dancing at the Gold Coast either. Thought I had just picked a bad night, but it sounds like it must be typical...

Well, I guess Vegas is not a place to salsa, though it's a perfect place to get drunk and get married and divorced a few hours later.

There's salsa at Gold Coast in Sat too, and I love that floor! As far as dancers, however, last time I was there I found one decent dancer who agreed to dance with me and saw only three others I thought would be good. Two of those never danced with anyone but their boyfriends and the third turned me down... :?

I won't tell La Shorty that you said that.

I haven't been to Vegas in the last couple of years since I became a Salsa addict, but these descriptions of the Salsa crowd don't surprise me. Vegas has always struck me as a place where not many people are truly "from," if you know what I mean. So, with large numbers of people moving in, staying for just a couple of years and then moving out, I think it would be difficult to build a true Salsa community out there.

Shorty is the bomb, but I've never danced salsa with her in Vegas Big10--only LA  That girl is FIRE on the floor btw! 8)

i'm glad its not just me then. i really wish they had good dancing there, i really wanted to dance. maybe when i'm there in april i'll go dancing, atleast i'll have a partner with me this next trip. the music was great though. that band at gold coast rocked!
