What did you want to be when you were little?

Most people have a specific career/job (or two or ten) that they wanted to be when they "grew up"...heck most of us probably still do (hehe). What did you want to be when you were little?


I wanted to be a marine biologist (because I excelled in the sciences), own a business and be a dance teacher (no joke). I am well on my way to my last two goals and have long since forgotten about the first one.

Hmm...let's see if I can recall...

When I was really young, I wanted to be a stay a home mom and have like 20 kids...then I found out about child labor through school and movies and decided that was NOT the way for me. I petrified to even have one...we'll see what happens after I get married. (probably way too much info...my apologies)

Then, I wanted to be a teacher. My grandfather, who is more like my father, didn't think teachers made enough money and he kinda talked me out of it. I still have an inkling to be a teacher, but I just don't want to go back to school for that long...that's why I'm thinking dance teacher: you get the best of both worlds.

Then, I was going to be a lawyer...I'm pretty good at arguing. I realized I could never defend someone I knew wasn't innocent or stand up for someone/something if I didn't believe in it. Besides, who am I to judge.

Somehow, I fell into administrative assistant in college and then marketing. Ultimately, I want to own my own dance studio.

Oh yea, I had one of those "I want to be a high school history teacher" because 1. That's what my grandmother was and 2. I had a crush on my JR year history teacher. My parents have always tried to tell me to be a lawyer because I could argue my way out of pretty much anything as a child (and still lol), we even had play mocks in jr high where I was a lawyer in a fake case. My 'collegue' and I actually "won" the 'case'. :lol: I never wanted to be one though..

When I was really young wanted to be a virologist (yeah I'm serious). In H.S. I wanted to be a Fighter Pilot (I'm in the Air Force and I am aircrew so got pretty close to that one). What I'd REALLY love to do is own my own recording studio. I have a degree in recording engineering just itching to be used. Maybe when I retire from the Air Force (6 more years!)

A lot of the time growing up I wanted to become a veterinarian... wanting to help-- I utimately discovered that that would mean only seeing animals when they are sick, wounded, and or dying and I knew I wouldn't be happy with that.

There was a period in high school when I wanted to open a silent movie theater-- I still think that would be awesome!!... but I'd just want to design it, still a spell at soda fountain where I could watch the soda jerk do all that nifty soda jerking providing a period atmosphere (although they weren't in movie theaters but who cares!) and watch movies there, not run it.

Then there was that week in first grade when I thought about what it would be like to be a tree... I didn't actually want to BE one... just thought about it :roll:[/i]

oh and what's a virologist? I could google it I know but it's more fun to ask! :wink:

Basically a researcher that studies viruses. Wanted to find some cures for some things when I was a wittle one! :lol:

When I was young, I wanted to be a nurse because my oldest sister wanted to be a doctor. I guess I thought we could work together. In HS, I put in an application in an old folks home but can't remember why I never worked there. I do remember the smell of medicine about knocked me out. :shock: Not a good sign. Then I wanted to become a famous photographer. Instead I got married very young and had 4 children, went to business college when they got older and became a legal secretary. (I think raising kids might count as being a nurse.) LOL!! :lol:

Well when I was young I wanted to be a teacher and a stay at home mom. Um...well I guess nothing has changed since I am a teacher and in a few years I'd like to have kids and be at home with them.

Thought Id share what I wanted to be...... I wanted to play AFL (ie the australian rules football)
I was so utterly determined, and I actually believed they would let a female as good as I was going to be, play in the league ! :lol: :lol: :lol:
I was about 12 when it dawned on me that it probably wasnt going to happen!
How I wish I hadnt lost some of that childhood hope!

So I moved on, to childcare, which I did for 3 years until I had my own kids which is where Im still at.

For me....

Heigh diddle dee dee!
An actor's life for me!

Although I was pulled in different directions--I was also mega-into paleontology; when I was 8 my dad and his grad assistant took me to the site of the discovery of a mastodon skeleton in the Florida blackdirt region of NY.

And I wanted to be a mystery writer--still working on that one.

But the pull of the theatre wins every time for me--the roar of the grease paint, the smell of the crowd....

Up to about grade 7 or so I wanted to be a biologist of some sort (and go figure, I can't stand biology classes now :lol: ) Through highschool I had my heart set on being a computer game programmer. And now I don't have a clue.
