polka

Does anyone know how to polka.

I saw a fantastic Polish folk band with some really passionate music that made me want to get up and dance.

No, I don't know how to polka, but when went to Wisconsin, they all seemed to know how to do it! Huge Polish community over there! Looks like a lot of fun!

I love to watch folks do the polka. My dad was really smooth at it when he was younger. I can remember dancing with him at weddings starting when I was probably 5. All I can do is the basic triple step, though I think it would be an awfully fun dance if my dh and I could learn more.

Triple step, triple step, triple step, triple step

That's all it is.

My family is Polish and we dance polka's at weddings, parties, etc. Most of the people dance holding each other around the waist or shoulder and in a large circle. The best way I can describe this step is it's like Dorothy going down the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz.

Not when you're dancing with a partner, of course.

Roll out the barrel....

In the C&W world, although many call it the "polka," it is often referred to as the "Triple Step" in competition, and believe me, it's nothing like the polka that you've done or seen!

It's very lively dance, with many of its own patterns, and many patterns from the Two Step can also be used. A 2-and-a-half-minute song in this dance, and you'll be needing oxygen afterwards!

Not exactly a video...but the scene of Yul Brenner and Deborah Kerr dancing together to "Shall We Dance" in "The King and I" is a polka!

Oh...and I almost forgot...

RFD-TV airs a show called "Big Joe Polka Show" which is all polka...the dancing is social polka and amusing. :D

...don't ask how I know this...

Yeah, try 7 years in Wisconsin. You'd get sick of polka really fast!!!
I did dance a really fun impromptu polka once...we danced to some birthday song, we were the only ones on the floor and I was leading. :)

Oh, I can do that! (I sometimes do it in my livingroom!) Great movie, too!
I think I'll practice leading my salsa buddy next time! That might be fun!

I'm from ontario and polka is pretty big with some family and other dutch people around here, only gotten to do it once though :( my family isn't huge into it, some of my friends are though.
