Okay. I admit it. I'm computer illiterate! Here are the only electronic abbreviations I know:

btw for by the way
lol for laughing out loud

Yup. That's it. The extent of my knowledge. Spell it out for me, you computer whizzes (geeks  ) of the forums. What other cool abbreviations are out there?
And what's the deal with all those colons and parentheses for emotions?
:D

rotfl - rolling on the floor laughing
rotflmao - rolling on the floor laughing my @-- off
wth - what the hell
cto - check this out

brb -- be right back (used in Instant Messaging)

I'm sure there are more but I believe the basics have been covered

Your Milage May Vary? I've never heard that one!

Ha! Check out what I found online (google, of course! :D )

Emoticons are ASCII (plain text) graphics. To read these, tilt your head to the left until the dots look like a pair of eyes. (BTW, the noses are optional.)

:-) user is smiling or joking (colon, dash, end parentheses)
:-( user is angry or sad (colon, dash, open parentheses)

:-o user is surprised or scared (colon, dash, lower case o)

:-@ user is screaming or cursing

:-I user is perplexed

:') user's tongue is in user's cheek; or user's nose is out of joint.Context counts for this one.

;-) user is being mischievous or sarcastic (semicolon, dash, close parentheses)

8-) user wears glasses, and is smiling (numeral 8,dash, close parentheses)

:-# Well, shut my mouth!

Note: Cyber regulars frequently include additional clues to denote their frame of mind by enclosing information in brackets. Examples: (giggle),

(smirk), (chuckle),

(shrug), (sigh).

Oddly enough, when I tried to pull down the raw text, the DF software understood and translated some of the emoticons into graphics. Hence the text in bold. Hope that helps! :D

dancer_of_god,

You, and people like you, are the reason why we struggle so hard to keep this website clean and focused on serious dance. G-d bless you! :D

Please let us know what we can do to support you. I think you're our youngest member. :D Welcome to the forums, again.

Jenn :D

thanks, jenn. that was very welcoming. I appreciate this site being so clean and stuff, you can't find that very often any more!
this seems to be a great place to just talk about the stuff none of my friends can relate to very well, cause they don't know what it's like to be able to dance. (and not dirty dancing at school dances, might I add)

THANKS SO MUCH, Chelsey

IANA<L/D> (I am not a <lawyer/doctor>), NDIPOOTV, (nor do I play one on TV), but AFAIK (as far as I know) and FWIW (for what its worth) abbreviations can save a lot of time. HTH (hope this helps)
;-)
Cheers
Sarah
