Traveling Cha-Cha
This is a couple dance done in the cape position. Men on the left draping their right arm over ladies' right shoulder and left hands clasped in front.
This cha-cha is divided into 5 parts which is how it is segmented below.
Part 1
1. rock forward on left foot
2. rock back on right foot
3. left-right-left
4. rock back on right foot
5. rock forward on left foot
6. right-left-right
7. rock forward on left foot
8. rock back on right foot
9. left-right-left
10. rock back on right foot
11. rock forward on left foot
12. right-left-right
As you do this final right-left-right, turn the lady 1/2 turn to left so she is facing you. Your right arm has to go over her head and your hands will be crossed in front.
Part 2
This part the men's and ladies' part differ
1. Men rock forward on left foot
Ladies rock back on left foot
2. Men rock back on right foot
Ladies rock forward on right foot
3. Men in place: left-right-left
Ladies turn 1/2 turn to right back into cape: left-right left
4. rock back on right foot
5. rock forward on left foot
6. Men in place: right-left-right
Ladies turn 1/2 turn to left so you are again facing partner with hands
crossed in front: right-left-right
7. Men rock forward on left foot
Ladies rock back on left foot
8. Men rock back on right foot
Ladies rock forward on right foot
9. Men in place: left-right-left
Ladies turn 1/2 turn to right back into cape: left-right-left
10. rock back on right foot
11. rock forward on left foot
12. right-left-right
Part 3
1. step foward on left foot (weight on this foot)
2. pivot 1/2 turn to right coming down on right foot
3. left-right-left
4. step forward on right foot (weight on this foot)
5. pivot 1/2 turn to left coming down on left foot
6. right-left-right
7. step forward on left foot (weight on this foot)
8. pivot 1/2 turn to right coming down on right foot
9. left-right-left
10. step forward on right foot (weight on this foot)
11. pivot 1/2 turn to left coming down on left foot
12. right-left-right
Part 4
This is where the dance gets its name "Traveling"
Drop left arms and have right arms slightly raised to go over ladies' head if you wish to do the turns.
1. step forward on left foot
2. step forward on right foot
If you are turning you both must do a complete turn to your right using these two steps as a pivot while still moving forward
3. while moving forward: left-right-left
4. step forward on right foot
5. step forward on left foot
If you are turning you both must do a complete turn to your left using these two steps as a pivot while still moving forward
6. while moving forward: right-left-right
7. step forward on left foot
8. step forward on right foot
If you are turning you both must do a complete turn to your right using these two steps as a pivot while still moving forward
9. while moving forward: left-right-left
10. step forward on right foot
11. step forward on left foot
If you are turning you both must do a complete turn to your left using these two steps as a pivot while moving forward
12. while moving forward: right-left-right
Part 5
Men's and Ladies' parts differ here
1. Men step on left foot, crossing over right to move to right
Ladies when you step on left foot step to left in front of man.
You will be coming across to other side. Drop right hands.
2. Both step on right, men moving toward right to accomodate lady who is
now on your left side. Grasp right hands behind the man's back.
3. left-right-left
4. Men step on right foot, crossing over left to move to left
Ladies when you step on right foot step to right behind man.
You will be coming across back to original side. Drop left hands.
5. Both step on left foot, men moving toward left to accomodate lady who is
now back on your right side. Make sure you lifted your right arm up for
her to come through. Grasp left hands back in front in original cape.
6. right-left-right
7. Men step on left foot, crossing over right to move right
Ladies when you step on left foot step to left in front of man.
You will be coming across to other side. Drop right hands.
8. Both step on right, men moving toward right to accomodate lady who isnow on your left side. Grasp right hands behind the man's back.
9. left-right-left
10. Men step on right foot, crossing over left to move left
Ladies when you step on right foot step to right behind man.
You will be coming across back to original side. Drop left hands.
11. Both step on left foot, men moving toward left to accomodate lady who isnow back on your right side. Make sure you lifted your right arm up forher to come through. Grasp left hands back in front in original cape.
12. right-left-right
