Why?

It seems that there are fewer Latin dancers than standard on this board. Maybe the ratio on the board reflects the real world. Why is that? Why do you think there are not as many Latin dancers as standard dancers?

Dunno... I dance American style, and I seem to be about the only one here, judging from the threads I've looked at so far.

I would think there are tons of more latin dancers than standards. I know for a fact there are way more people in my salsa class than my ballroom class. I think it's because young people prefer latin dances more?? It's something you can dance at clubs and not just at social dance events.

American Smooth or Rhythm? Because there are few smooth guys here :o)

My experience is that latin dancers tend to be younger dancers (20-30's) than standard/smooth dancers. We might have a bigger group of older dancers on this board, thus there is more standard/smooth people.

Actually there are a few of us on the board - but we are in the minority. I dance Smooth pro/am as that is my preferred style but I have recently picked up an Am partner for standard as there aren't any ams in my neck of the woods to dance smooth with.

I dance mostly American style, and I love the Rhythm/latin dances.

From what I've seen at comps over the years, more students compete in Smooth/Standard because they find it easier, they say.

It's all good! :D

I've always thought that latin comes easier to most people. If we take 'Dancing with the stars' as an example of pro-am comp, contestants seem to have a much easier time with latin dances.

i think the question was international latin (ballroom style) versus ballroom standard and smooth, (not american vs. international or street style versus ballroom style.)

You see the same trend if you look at the USA Dance Nationals registration. Many more standard couples when compared to latin.

I'm an American Style Siver Dancer in both Smooth and Rhythm for the past 7 years. It doesn't hurt that Sunshine is the best Rhythm Girl on the Pro Circuit.
