Tap Step or Kick Step

I'm sure most of you know the "4 Kicks", two in promenade and two facing. I was curious to know a little more about the technique and variatins in style. Let me explain:
1) I was told that often the country western dancers kick with their toe pointed because it better shows off the boots
2) I've seen Lindy Hoppers kick (especially savoy) but not point, and in the last two kicks they almost embrace as the man raises the left hand sort or like ballroom
3) AMong ballroom dancers, I especially see more points, but I was trying to figure out about the bounce. I was wondering if you like to bounce down and then point a little more up, or if you like to be down a little more on the point.

I like to be down in my point. Why do most of my students not like this step??

I think the step can look pretty could with some added style, but I'm not a fan of the old Arthur Murray four back walks and four kicks, but believe it or not, Bob and Julia taught this step at a workshop I attended a few years ago, and they made it look pretty good.
