Venue with tables discourages mixing?

This is an issue that I never thought about before, but so much at our studio and its interactions make a lot more sense. (We have tables all along the walls.)

I don't think tables or chairs have effect on mixing and mingling. People who want to, will do so regardless. I personally prefer to have at least some tables there, so that I don't have to put my drink (or even worse, snack) on the floor underneath my chair.

Yes, and some people--like me!--want to have a table for my wine! :p

At my old studios last Halloween party there were no tables just chairs and people kept forgetting where they put their wine.. that was annoying.. you didn't have "your place" set up so you could leave your drink there.

the last studio i was affliated with had tables along one side of the dance floor. i heard from several students that this was not ideal for socialztion. it became to groupy and did nothing for mixing.

i am opening two studios this week one smaller strictly for private lessons. the other is very large and i am having 4 high top tables in the corners of the room. i will have 4 couches and the floor will have chairs around the perimeter. i am hoping with this design i can achieve the friendly and social aspect of our stuidio dances.

I think that set up sounds perfect.

I think what you have envisioned is sound. Best of luck on those studios... :p
