What I wish they would do on DWTS

I wish that as the competition gets toward the end, and the pro-celeb couples have to do two dances per week, that they would have one week where celebs would be paired off for ONE of their two dances and would have to dance with each other, coached by both pros. They would still do their other dance with their pro, of course.

I think it would be fun, esp given how much fun the celebs seem to have with each other backstage.

The biggest problem with that idea: since DWTS eliminates the star with the lowest number of points, sometimes there is a huge gender inbalance at that point.

The second biggest problem: the number probably would not be quite as splashy. But I still think that with the right choreography, it could be cool. Alternatively, they could do a number with two pros and two celebs, where the celebs would have to dance with each other for part of the routine.
 
Ha! You have no idea of the importance of leading and backleading by pros!
You would see how much they rely on their pros. Also you'd see some very beginner looking routines with no tricks at all. That takes time.
 
The main thing I would change is to ditch the eliminations. Then just have a final score at the end to determine the winner. That way we could see how everyone imroved. I would have loved to see if Penn got any better.

Why do they do the elimination format anyway - just because everyone else does it? They would probably have to limit the number of contestants because of time limits, but they could make it work.

At the end, they could even have different winners for each dance as well as the overall winner.

Kind of like a Jack and Jill. Funny thing ... if you took two dancers with some training with a pro coach and had them dance together, it would look like a normal amateur comp wouldn't it :D
 
See, call me crazy, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing.

Plus, it wouldn't look exactly like an amateur comp routine, because they'd still be allowed to do some open work and tricks. I actually think doing tricks can be easier for many people than doing lead-follow, so I still think there could be enough of the "wow" factor for TV...if the choreography were right.

Let's face it: part of what people watch for is the dancing, but part of it is the developing relationships between pro and star, and between star and star. This would give the celebs a chance to work together and develop their friendships in a whole different way.

I like that idea... it seems like they go through so much effort "eating up" time by interviewing everyone, you'd think they'd just keep more dancers in!
 
This would really show who's got the goods and who doesn't!

Interesting about the pros pairing up too . . .

I was thinking that was a good idea until I happen to think of what that might mean:
A whole season of Billy Ray Cyrus! :shock:
Of Jerry Springer! :shock:
Of Master P! :shock::shock:
 
I wish they would bring in more pros to dance. Thats what I like to watch the most anyway...

Oh yeah, and I also wish they would score the bad dances low and the good dances high :D

Only if they tell it like it is and don't just blindly praise these kids and tell them how cute they are. Yeah, I know they're *kids*, but it's (allegedly) a dance contest, after all. They can and should be critiqued, but on the other hand, such words would likely go over like a lead balloon on TV. I say showcase them occasionally but eliminate the contest part, unless somehow they can get the DWTS Pros involved in the scoring. Gotta keep it anonymous though, because heaven forbid you say something bad about a cute child's dancing.... then kiss those fan votes goodbye.
