USADance questions

What i still cannot fathom is that no justification for the tightening of the adult syllabus dress code has ever been offered. It is NOT an IDSF requirement in adult categories, something obviously demonstrated by the decision to allow senior syllabus to wear championship dress. If that's permissable then a few sentences banning tailsuits and overt stoned gowns pasted onto the championship dress coverage descriptions should be more than sufficient for adults.

Agree with you 100% there Chris. The only justification I've ever heard is that it's to keep costs down so that people don't feel obligated to buy costumes at the syllabus level, but the effect is totally negated when the rules are so specific you have to special outfits just to fit all the rules of the dress code.

Actually, satin is no longer allowed... (I'm quoting words out of Daphna's mouth, by the way). Although that strip of satin down men's dance pants still are... they would prefer it not to be there, but since it is next to impossible to find dance pants without it, they are letting it pass.

Ah I missed that bit about the Satin on the pants in the rulebook. I'll have to make sure to bring plain pants then O_o Just to simplify things as much as possible.

Swan: Yeah, we are def. brining back up stuff, but our friend is making a top that specifically goes with one of my partners skirts. Its really pretty and her first time trying to make dance related stuff. It would really suck if we could not wear it at USA Dance events. Therefore, I want to gather info regarding what the exact rulings are so we can change the materials and design. (The top has some kind of Satin halter neck thingy)

Yes, these are considered light effects as well. Most people get around it by taping lab/electrical/masking/duct tape over it, sewing fabric around it, or other ways to cover it up.
Oh, thats a really good idea. I'll make sure to let my teammates know about that. ^^

Gotta love it when they tell you about one heat (aka 1 minute) before you have to get on the floor and dance that you have to change shirts entirely. Sends the men running around, in the worst case asking random strangers if they have a white shirt they can borrow. The nice people will let you at last dance one round as a freebie before having to change...
Aren't you supposed to know the rules before you step onto the floor? Remember the 7 Ps?

Actually uniformity would not be such a bad thing at syllabus levels. This "strap must be X inches wide and not more than Y inches from body part Z" and "this fabric is OK, but this is not" is nuts. But apparently by attempting to adopt rules, they realized how easy it is to misinterpret them; hence pages and pages' worth of descriptions that people still cannot understand (or try to find loopholes).
...and this is exactly how the Internal Revenue Code got to be as bizarre and convoluted as it is. Some things never change...

The only thing I ever remember hearing was something about the appearance of uniformity being important for true recognition as a sport? Something about the Olympics I think?

Preparation x 7?

I know the rules for myself and probably most of the men's rules. Partner on the other hand... though recently he has highly amused himself by learning about the "bra cups must be no further than 2 inches apart" rule.

So I take it he likes to measure it before every dance just to make sure it hasn't changed?

Hahaha there is absolutely no danger of violating that rule, so he doesn't ever get the chance to. :D

We both still can't make any sense of why anyone would want their bra cups to be that far apart from each other in the first place...yikes.

If that is what Joe meant by the 7 P's, it just means be prepared for anything and everything, and do absolutely everything you can to be prepared. I think?

Yes my guess is he meant the military 7Ps:
Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance

And not the apparently 7Ps of marketing:
Product Price Promotion Place Process Physical Evidence People

haha
