Making Your Own Costumes

OR, where to find a pattern for such a thing? I've come up blank on a lot of 'net searches.

I finally found a costume pattern for a man's tailcoat and am improvising as I go (not paying $1500 for a tailsuit for my hubby, sorry). Hopefully by the time we're ready to compete, it will be ready.

Why oh why can't patterns for this stuff be made available?????????? I'd gladly pay $50 for a decent pattern that could be modified by adjusting details. And I generally pay $3 or less for my patterns at Wal-Mart.....

I believe this company used to be named tothenines.com -- they've been around a while. The patterns are $100 - $140, but they are basic styles that you can adapt to make many gowns. They also have a ballroom gown instruction manual, and sell rhinestones, crystals, boas and lots of other stuff.
 
I should have mentioned this. A couple of sites that have reasonably priced clothes, suitable for Latin costumes or exhibition wear (not standard or smooth) are notablyunique.com and tosca dance fashions -- I forgot the exact site, but you should be able to just google it. Cute clothes, that won't break the bank.
 
I think in the dance costume industry theres alot of luxury goods based pricing.. There are a couple of vogue patterns on the market that can be easily adapted to a ballgown

Hope this helps and I am working on your "problem" but the product release date wont be until at least the next quarter if it turns out to be a viable product at all

I LOVE YOU! That is indeed a great pattern and very adaptable. I'd program the doggone code myself, but I'm just not that proficient. I can modify the heck out of a paper pattern, but don't have the arcane knowledge of how to create on in the first place. 8)

I had to the nines bookmarked, but I guess the site was changed because when I checked it yesterday, I got a site not found error.... Thanks a bunch! Although $100+ is still too much for a pattern I have to make myself.....
 
Yeah pattern making software is useless unless you know how to make patterns at least the one I use is
 
Speaking of costumes, you might want to check out Joann fabrics right now. They have a 50% off sale through Christmas on their "Casa Collection" -- laces, crepes, satins, sheers, and linings. Suitable for evening wear or ballroom dance.
 
I had forgotten about this link I found months ago. Instructions for making a basic circle skirt, like you'd use for ballroom smooth/standard practice. This one could save you a lot of money, since those skirts can cost $200 - $300. enjoy! BTW, dancersdreamland, there are instructions for harem pants, too. :D
