where to salsa in Tokyo and Osaka

I tried to do a search but didn't see anything beyond 2005 that talked about where to salsa in Tokyo and Osaka. I want to be sure I have current info.

Can anyone tell me where to salsa in Tokyo on Weds through Saturday nights, and where to salsa in Osaka Monday and Tuesday nights?

For Osaka, I have info on "Only Salsa at Sando" on Monday, and Pata Pata de la Salsa at Imperial Hotel on Monday, Salsumba on Tuesday nights, and Club Osaka every night. Is that info still correct?

Thanks!

Cool! Thanks alot. Boy, those hours sure look wild (7p - 7a dancing?!), but then it could be because their subway shuts down at midnight, so I guess lots of people just stay out all night until the subway re-opens again in the morning...

yippee,

Welcome to Japan in advance!

I'm afraid those infos you are referring to are way out of date.
There are many clubs and bars coming and going these days. Nobody seems to keep up the comprehensive up-to-date information at least in English.

Below is the current "to go " list that I picked up, assuming you dance ET2 and want to in Tokyo,
( If not, I'll give you other versions. )
... Well in fact, this is the "I'll be there" list.;-)

(cf. salsa.vc/salsapedia/)

- Salsa Caribe
- Reine Roppongi bldg. 2F, 5-3-4, Roppongi, Minatoku
- tel : 03-3746-0244
Come on Wednesday, and I'll be there :D. Everyone's all-time favourite club in Tokyo.
Thursday will be okay, though the crowd and music could be more "mixed" (I'm no regular).
Friday & Saturday will be absurdly crowded. But hey, it's Tokyo, so.
* Lessons at 19:30-21:00

- Salsa Copacabana
- 21 Taimei Bldg. 3F, 5-2-4, Roppongi, Minatoku
- tel : 03-5414-3627
Friday unless there are other events, which is very possible.

- Club Pepito (@ Studio Pepe 2)
- Business Apartments B1F, 7-17-12, Roppongi, Minatoku
- tel : 03-5474-8019
Mambo social on Thursdays. Haven't been there for a while, though.
They will have occasional events on Fri. and/or Sat. at this studio.

We also have monthly or bi-weekly events (some are big and popular) at other locations. There also are places outside of Roppongi.
Since it depends on the date and the location of your stay, please let me know and I'll give you more details.

And Do Have Fun!! Salsa in tokyo is a lot of fun.

I don't know much about the salsa scene in Osaka.
But from what I've heard, I don't think there's much happening on Monday nor Tuesday on a regular basis any more.

Caribe is a good weekday choice, but the place empties by midnight on weekdays. And dancing proper doesn't start until classes are over (about 9pm?), so even though the club is open 7pm - 7am, you are unlikely to be dancing all that time... And on weekends, it's just far too busy.

If you are in Tokyo on a weekend when the Salsa Hotline Night is on, try it (usually last Saturday of month). Nice large dancefloors and good standard of dancing. Also, you may want to contact Extreme Salsa (info@extreme-salsa.com) and see if their weekend club night is on when you are there - I went to their club night at Midas (and bumped into Tamaki ;) ) the last time I was there and discovered that that's where all the good on2 leaders were hiding!

Yes, Macmoto is right about Caribe.
And yes, Mac is right about Extreme-Salsa events too. They are must-go.
However, they (E-S crew) are currently kind of rebuilding their events. -- Changing schedules, in search for venues, etc.
So I cannot tell you anything much for sure yet.

And Macmoto,
Wow! I think I've got great news! (Or salseros in Tokyo have?)
Looking forward to it.8)

X-mas and New Year

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but if I just may build upon previous posts:

I'll be in Tokyo Dec 23rd to Jan 5th. I'd love to go dancing Salsa, but I'm kind of afraid that many people are on vacation and clubs are closed as well.
From my research on the internet I can tell that the first choice during weekdays will be Salsa Caribe, but what about the "special days" 24th and New Year's Eve?

I dance Crossbody-style On1 and On2.

Anybody like to share?

Cheers,
Funaki

Hi funaki,

Christmas isn't a public holiday in Japan, so I don't think you need to worry about people being on holiday and clubs closing until New Year's Day (which *is* a public holiday).

I know that Salsa Hot Line organises a NYE countdown party every year, which I'd imagine will be a fairly big event. It's at La Boheme in Odaiba.

If you can read Japanese (or know someone you can), this page may help:
http://www.salsa120.jp/new/pdf/110-0712.pdf
Looks like there will be plenty of other countdown parties going on too.

Otherwise, let's hope Tamaki will chime in with her recommendations soon...;)

Uh... I don't read Japanese... ;-)

Thanks very much! I will definitely be on that New Year's Eve event... I do know that already. Hope to see you!

Thanks!
Funaki

24th

I'll go to Caribe on 24th, as well as other salsa-holics will.8)

Other than that, my friend is organizing an event called "Tokyo Latin Night" at Studio Pepe2, which will be fun too.

(see my previous post for its address & tel)

I'll PM you for the details.
