SYTYCD Season 4 Week 5

Uh oh, might be a tough week for Chelsie and Mark/Jessica and Will...

...I have a strange cable TV glitch to share: for whatever reason, my DVR was listing tonight's show as a repeat, and if I hadn't caught it and changed my series recording settings from "Only New Episodes" to "New and Repeats", it wouldn't have recorded.

I remember bringing that up last week about the TV listings. I guess the dancers did not get July 4th off after all. Interesting that they're ramped up the difficulty, with 2 routines each week, so early in the comp. That said, I think I might bite the bullet soon and get a Tivo given how inexpensive they are when purchased online versus in the store.

I agree about Jessica and Will potentially having it rough. The Quickstep is the Dance of Death for this show. You either do it all right, and are safe, or get torn apart by the judges and wind up in the bottom 3.

Chelsie and Mark have such a good partnership that I think they can rise above whatever material they're given and make it look great. I'm *very* curious to see how Mark does ADS's salsa.

I remember we were talking about the strangeness of last week. Didn't realize it carried over into this week. But hey, now I'm covered either way.

Someone mentioned that if you get a Tivo, you still need to subscribe in order to get their TV schedule to download, so make sure you factor that in the costs. You'll likely also have to get a cable card from your cable TV company, I think?

Overall, when I last talked to a coworker, it sounded about the same in regards to $$ cost. But I do like the interface for Tivo much much more than my Comcast DVR.

Yup, we have the same thoughts about Jessica and Will, and I hope you're right about Chelsie and Mark.

Yep, we're up to date on that.

Yikes, I hope not! Based on what I saw on Tivo's site, you just need the cable from the wall to plug into the Tivo the same way you'd plug in a VCR or TV. I'll doublecheck their page if/when I do decide to order.

I worry about Jessica. It's hard to shine when your partner is someone who I believe, at this point, is poised to be in the Top 4. I think she stepped up last week but it's up to the viewers at home to keep her around.

Wahoo for the chacha...

Also...

Bollywood? Bollywood?? Bollywood?!??!

I know what I'll be doing tomorrow night...

=P

That is... what I ALWAYS do on Wednesday nights. =P
Why do you think I was WOOHOO'ing earlier? I love me some Pasha and Anya! :notworth: :D

Regarding the Bollywood, I *truly* hope it's better than what Kate & Graeme did on So You Think You Can Dance Australia a few months ago. That or maybe I'm a little harsher because I watched Bride & Prejudice on Friday. :???:

Umm... who doesn't? It's almost as yummy as having Dmitry back....

... only 100 times better! :p

Although Bride & Prejudice is a decent representation of Bollywood dancing it's still (I think) a Westernized version of Bollywood dancing (or maybe that's just the movie as a whole. (Don't get me started about Bombay Dreams, although the music in both cases is catchy)

But I agree, I didn't like the clip you added on... "Mine eyes! Mine eyes! It Burns!" =D

I'd really would like to know who would be choreographing... it'd be interesting that's for sure...

I think MyOxIsBroken (is she in the forums somewhere?) is a big Bollywood fan, she'd be a better critic than I am....

What's next? Belly Dancing? =D

Re: TIVO
I was just looking up the service and it appears that the cable card is only if you need/want HDTV. You can get a standard TIVO box that just works with a normal cable TV setup, too.

The monthly cost is around $13, although you could buy a lifetime subscription for $400 (yikes!)

Re: strangeness of Comcast's DVR schedule
Checked it again last night. It's now listing as a new show, but my DVR is confused and has it listed twice. ...maybe I should just watch it "live", lol.

Re: Anya and Pasha
Woo hoo! I hope it's good! (Unfortunately, my expectations will be somewhat high again...)

Watching the show right now...

Wow, given prior history, Mark and Chelsea did a very nice job on that salsa routine.

I really liked the Courtney & Gev routine - maybe my fav so far tonight? I hope they don't get voted off this week! I agree about the technical parts, but I think they have nice chemistry together. And Courtney has an expressive face, too.

I agree with Jessica and William... and Courtney and Gev...

I like Twitch but not Kherington so much in the routine.

With Joshua and Katee it seemed rushed... and I agree with the judges wholeheartedly... Katee did a better job than Joshua in the waltz routine though.

On a side note.. I believe that had it not been for the drama that Katee had to go through during auditions I don't think Katee would have danced with the same kind of "spark" as she is now. I'll admit that I wasn't convinced of her despite understanding why... however... I think she proved herself time and time again. (Again I think after the whole thing with the audition Katee might have felt like she needed to prove something which is why she's been doing well).

Good points, especially the one about Katee. I'd also think that she has garnered some sympathy votes after enduring that incident during the auditions. I'm a bit concerned that the two of them peaked a few weeks ago, and the past two weeks haven't been as good.

Meanwhile - wow, what's happened? It's like the judges flipped a switch and suddenly none of the routines are getting much praise with most of the 2nd performances. I dunno if it's nearly as bad as what the judges are saying. Maybe somewhat mediocre compared to what we've seen in the past, but I feel like the dancers are doing most of what's been asked/expected with their choreography.

...I spoke too soon. Joshua and Katee's Bollywood routine was back to the same high level as earlier weeks, IMHO.
