Tango in Budapest and Sofia

I do have experience with the Sofia tango community as I happen to be from Bulgaria originally. Is there anything specific you'd like to know?
Teachers you'd recommend, nice milongas and will they dance with a non-Bulgarian-speaking slightly eccentric English lady?

Maybe I can help you about Budapest. I'm from there. I didn't dance tango, but I know teachers and klubs there if you are interested.

There are no huge differences among the (not so many) milongas really. Still, you might want to take the classes (they start at 6) before the Saturday and Sunday milongas.

Thanks for your reply - my internet connection has been broken so I have only just seen it. I'll be in Sofia on 15/16/17th August so I'll see what I can fit in.
I'm having a fantastic time in lovely Bulgaria but nowhere near a milonga!
However, I did get to go to a milonga in Budapest which was pretty special and worth passing on to anyone who may be visiting. In the summer one of the local teachers organises open-air milongas, which were publicised on his website - try googling tango in Budapest. One, at a place called Muscarnosc (sic) I couldn't find and there were no maps on the site to help me. However, I did attend one event which was held at the top of Castle Hill, which, as anyone who has ever visited will know, is about the most prominent and spectacular point in the entire city.
I hadn't taken shoes, so I didn't dance, but it was still very atmospheric just to watch the dancers as night fell and all the lights of the city began to reflect in the Danube far below. I gather a beginner's class was held at the start but I didn't get there in time for that. I would recommend looking it up if you ever go to Budapest - get the bus up to the old town and turn left as far as you can go past the front of the Palace. The dancing was on stone flags so old shoes would be best.
