I'm currently organizing my second tango tea dance and am finding the whole DJing thing increasingly stressful. I want to do it properly. However Im finding that very difficult. I've managed to get together enough music for both of the tea dances (3 hours of music) but only just. So what compromises could and should be made?
First of all, there's the whole business about organizing tandas so that you have 3 or 4 tunes in the tanda by the same composer from the same year and possibly with the same singer. Do the non DJs on this board understand how difficult that is? And how expensive that can be? It's hard enough for me to find 3 or 4 decent tangos by the same composer. Never mind if they sound any good together.
I've tried using tejastango for instance to put together tandas. But time and again I'm short of music. I estimate I have only succeeded in putting together a quarter of the recommended tandas.
I'm aware that this thread could turn into one long whinge. I dont mean it to be. I'm genuinely interested in how people have gone about compiling their playlists without it costing them hundreds of pounds (dollars, whatever). Oh and yes , and I would like to do it legally
