Spinning for men

Hello Friends,
I have searched the internet and also these forums but are there any articles on spinning for men? Does the technique mentioned for women also help men or is it completely different. Can someone point me to DVD or resources that I could use.

I looked up salsa spins on youtube and saw a studio (eastcoast?) trying to teach them. They were autrocious. Turns take a lot of technical skill and practice. I have seen very few salseros that are really good at them.

If you have alot of jazz studios in your area, I would suggest taking open classes in spins and turns. Ballet even teaches turns but I don't think you would be interested in taking ballet classes. There are many types of turns/spins...and a good prep is important. Suggestions I have heard is Start with a good prep, good alignment, pull up out of your waist and drop your shoulders.

I know it's not the spins your refering to, but the dynamics are the same. Salsa turns are more like "pencil turns" which is even easier than the ones in the clip.

I hope that you do learn to turn well. It won't happen overnight, so good luck.

Edie the Salsa Freak has a video for spins and turns. The technique for men and women is the same, just women have to do it in heels. :)

In dance, women have to do everything we do--BUT in heels AND backwards, (remembering what Ginger Rogers said about her and Fred Astaire). God bless 'em, because they can also give birth. They are much tougher than we are! We are just crazy about them!
