Boston, Philly & UK salseros

Where would be the best place for me to go out?

In Boston I'll be staying at 110 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA on Mon 20th sep and in Philly 21 North Juniper Street, 19107 on sat 11 sep.

If possible can the places not be too far away. I tried to go out in Denver, but the club was a $60 cab ride each way, I just couldn't justify it, so I couldn't go

UK salseros hello! Londoners a question, have you tried out the new night at La Finca on a Wednesday? I like Dr Jim's style of music, so I'm happy, but they really need to sort out the air con!

UK salseros, will I be seeing any of you at this?http://www.ccbr02442.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dec/info.htm

I got the time of work, and am booking this week :D

I know there's at least one Philly salsero in the house. I'm sure he can help. I'm from Philly, but left long before my salsa dancing days.

There's quite a bit on the web, but the listings are all mixed up -- every Philly neighborhood, plus much of South Jersey (as if that helps! :x )

If our Philly guy doesn't check in, I'll try to sort through some of the listings on phillysalseros.com, and find a couple venues that are in downtown Philly, which is within a short walk of where you'll be staying.

Okay. Here's an older post from starry about Philly dancing.

http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?p=63698#63698

The only problem is that almost everything starry recommends is far from you or on the wrong night of the week. You're staying in Center City, just north of Market Street between Thirteenth and Broad (which is 14th, under a different name.)

From this post, your best bet is probably Cuba Libre Restaurant in Olde City. Too far to walk, but a very short cab ride. I'll keep looking. Brasil's on Chestnut Street is just one street south of Market, but starry doesn't give a cross street. I'm guessing that it's either downtown, which makes it close enough to walk, or in University City, about a fifteen to twenty minute cab ride away.

Okay. So Cuba Libre is looking like your best bet. It looks like Friday night is THE night to salsa in Philly. Saturday night listings are few and far between. It's a shame you won't be there on Sunday the 12th. Penn's Landing (on the waterfront) parties are a blast, and the last one of the season is being held on Sunday the 12th. :(

Everything else I saw on phillysalseros is far from you, if you're trying to keep the cab costs down.

Brasil's, btw, is at Second and Chestnut. Pretty short cab ride, but it appears that Wednesday and Friday are their hot nights. The phillysalseros web site does list a phone number, so you might want to give Brasil's a call when you get in town, just to see if they have anything going on. You might even risk walking there or to Cuba Libre's. It would probably take about half an hour to forty minutes to walk. But I'd definitely take a cab home. Philly has regentrified downtown beautifully, but there still might be unsavory characters around.

Incidentally, Philly has fairly accessible cabs near the downtown hotels and, of course, clubs will call cabs for you. But Philly is not like New York, with cabs everywhere to be hailed down. Your hotel will call one for you, and cabbies usually wait outside clubs around closing time, so you should be all right.

Have fun. :D

Can you tell I'm feeling nostalgic for Philly?  Gotta go visit.

Here's Cuba Libre's web site, with phone numbers and pictures. It's at 10 S Second Street, so it's a straight walk down Market Street from your hotel.

Now this is a well done web page! salsaboston.com has listing of dance clubs by night of the week. 8)

h t t p:// salsaboston.com/clubguide/monday.html

Where is Lynn? There are two listings for Monday night in Lynn, wherever that is, and one listing for Cambridge. The nice thing about Boston/Cambridge is that the public transportation is stellar. I mean really nice. Getting around Boston can be done on foot or via the train (The T) for the most part. Cabs are expensive.

Anybody here from Boston? Can you help?

I'm from Boston =)

There are lots of good places to go dancing: Sophia's, Ryles, BCAA, etc. They have different things happening on different nights. A good website for finding somewhere to dance in Boston is www.salsaboston.com and most of these places are easy to get to on the subway.

Have fun!

Oh, sorry, pygmalion--didn't read your posting.

I would not under any circumstances recommend going to Lynn. Not only is it about 45 mins from Boston, it's also pretty crappy =).

Thank you soo much Pygmalion for all your help! I wish I was in Philly for the waterfront party, or on a Friday. :( Never mind I'm sure I'll have fun at the Cuba Libre place. It look like Greent St Grille it is for the Monday. I've had a PM about this place too. Can't wait. :)

I can see how nostalgic you are for Boston, surely there must be good dancing in Florida too, or is the everything your missing?

G89 thank you also. Welcome to the forum, hey do you go every Monday? Maybe I'll see you there when I go?

I also really recommend Havana Club's Monday nights at Green St Grille--it's great dancing and the people there couldn't be nicer. I haven't gone for a while and probably won't be there... but perhaps! There's always the chance that I'll have no schoolwork... one can only hope =).
