My Denver Salsa Report

I just got back from two weekends in Denver sandwiched between a week of skiing. I got to met youngsta and delamusica while I was there. Funny story was that I'd never seen dela before, but the second night I was there, I went to a club. There were several couples already dancing when I got there. Anyway, I see a girl out there dancing and think she dances really well, so I go ask her to dance. After the dance I asked her name and she goes "delamusica" (ok not really), but she says her name and I go "oh your the one I've been talking to online huh?" :D It was very cool to get to dance with you, dela, thanks.

I didn't dance with youngsta, but I could see why all the DF ladies are after him...umm, for a dance, i mean

I met a lot of really nice people in Denver and all the places I went to, had really good dance floors. youngsta, if you happen to run into a couple of cute Russian girls at Blue Ice named Olga and Eva tell them to come look me up on DF :D . They were supposed to come back, but I figure the snow kept them away. They were just learning but both had lots of potential and were loads of fun.

I also was dancing with another really cute girl last Friday. She kept going on and on how much fun she was having dancing with me, then her boyfriend showed up. Then kind of ended that . He was a good dancer too though.

One thing I learned is that if your new and don't know anyone, go to the clubs about 30 to 45 minutes before they have the lesson. They are usually playing good salsa music, the floor isn't crowded and most of the people are there to dance which means less chance for rejection (for all those rejection thread addicts).

Last Saturday at La Rumba, I asked this Asian girl in pig tails and jeans to dance. She goes "Are you a good lead?" I think "Oh great, one of those...", I just said "I do ok". She wasn't being snooty like I thought, she then said she wasn't very experienced and needed someone who could lead her. We got out on the dance floor and actually she was pretty good. She danced a lot like a South American girl I dance with here so our styles fit pretty well. I don't remember the song, but it seemed to go on forever and there were only a couple of other couples on the floor. It was great fun! We had a few misconnections and such, but for the first time dancing together I though we did pretty good. Anyway, right after we walked off the floor, the lady that was going to do the lesson gets on the mic and goes, ok whoever wants to learn to salsa come on to the dance floor. I promise you, over 100 people came out on the floor. The teacher was in shock...it took her about 5 minutes to figure out what to do with them all. She said she'd never had that many before. Basically everyone else in the club had come out to the floor. I'm totally sure it had nothing to do with the ones of us out there dancing...but for a second it felt pretty good to wonder :D .

I ended my trip up at D-Note on Sunday night. It was a really nice place...no smoke! I had a good time there as well...I got to bachata :) . I think the thing I like most about salsa and other latin dancing...it seems to draw a wide variety of interesting people from all over the world. One of the girls I met there had a strong swedish accent. I really love it when everyone has their own style and each partner brings something different when you dance with them.

I almost forgot, but I'd planned on visiting djpatricio at the club he DJ's at in Avon (near Vail). Sorry I didn't make it out, I was at Copper and with all the snow we were getting and supposed to be getting that night I didn't want to take a chance driving back over the pass that late. I appreciate all the info you sent me though, and hopefully I can catch you in the city this summer. Let me know where you wind up.
