All Time Greatest Salsa Hits - Your Picks?

I'm hoping to get a list of some of the most famous salsa tunes of all time. Here is a start:
Grupo Niche "Cali Pachanguero" and "Aventura"
Africando "Ya Boy"
Celia Cruz "Azucar Negra" and "Quimbara"

If you'll post some of your all-time favorites, I'll keep adding them to this post and we'll get a nice list going for others to enjoy. :)

I don't know about famous, but this song:

"Cuero Na Ma" by Jose Mangual Jr.

If that song does not force you to dance, if it doesn't hit you like a 10-ton Mack, then you're not breathing! It's really hard to find, but believe me get your hands on that song, even if it's on a CD with 50 other songs you don't like!!

After that I would say:

"Periodico De Ayer" by Hector Lavoe (pretty much anything from Hector Lavoe)

And anything from Jose Alberto "El Canario"

As a newcomer to the Salsa scene (a ½ year) I properly have a little special taste in salsa music. I have tried to listen to a lot of music to hear the 1, and get used to the Salsa sound. My normal music is composed by a majority of rock and hard rock titles, so this is something completely different.

As for the Spanish language, this is almost just sounds to me. I might get a clue to the theme of the song, but no clue to any details.

There are 3 songs on my favourite list right now. All songs easy to dance to, making the lead more easy for me.

La Son Charanga – Salsa Y Charanga

This is a happy song with a nice flute, and my feet just want to move.

Yorman – Una Nueva Forma

D’Leon junior mix reggae sounds into salsa. Cool to dance to, and perfect for small breaks, shines or fun.

Africandos – Aicha

Great song, and it is possible to find it outside the salsa environment.

A little out of topic, but Joaquin Sabina did a pseudoparody to the 'Cha Cha Cole' beat called 'Ya Eyacule' ( I've ejaculated ). It might not be salsa gold, but it's on my list of top funny songs.

How about Oscar D'Leon's "Lloraras" and "Pedro Navajas" by Willie Colon & Ruben Blades.

Ajiaco Caliente - Eddie Palmieri
Bilongo - Eddie Palmirei
La Murga - Mr. Lavoe
Juliana - Cuco Valoy - DLG, in my opinion destroyed the song
La Loma Del Tamarindo - Gran Combo

La Boda De Ella - Bobby Valentin
El Viento Me Da - El Combo Del Ayer
Ojos Chinos - El Gran Combo
El Cuarto De Tula - Buena Vista Social Club

Periodico De ayer - Sang By Lavoe written by Mr. Tite Curret Alonzo
God I almost forgot..........
La Cartera - Larry Harlow...

Imma stop here before I type some 2000 songs...

Here are three of my favorites of all time:

Son Boricua - El Negro Bembón
Tito Puente - Asia Mood
Tito Puente - Hong Kong Mambo

Frankie Ruiz: "La Cura" "Puerto Rico" "Desnudate Mujer" "Bailando"

Grupo Niche: "A Golpe de Folklore" "La Negra No Quiere" "Han Cogida la Cosa" "Etnia" "Cielo de Tambores"

Joe Arroyo: "Rebelion" "Pa'l Bailador" "Enhorabuena" "Mary"

Celia Cruz (with Willie Colon): "Usted Abuso"

Tito Nieves: "Dejame Vivir" "Le Gusta Que La Vean"

Eddie Palmieri: "Malaguena Salerosa"

Willie Rosario/Gilberto Santa Rosa: "El Apartamento"

Gilberto Santa Rosa: "La Agarro Bajando"

Rey Ruiz: "Desde Que No Estas" (I reserve the right to like bubble gum salsa)

Mickey Tavaras: "Historia Entre Tus Dedos" (I reserve the right to like downright sacharine bubble gum salsa)

Tito Gomez: "Llora"

Cuco Valoy: "Mariana Engracia" (I've never heard it in clubs, aside from when my teachers were giving lessons--and that's only because I turned them on to the compilation where I discovered this song.)

Louie Ramirez/Azuquita: "En un Beso la Vida" (Great old song, that I've never heard anywhere except on my CD player)

Fruko y Sus Tesos: "Rumba de Cali"

Etc.

Note: these are songs that make me want to dance. Some of my favorite salsa songs (especially classic salsa) don't necessarily make me want to dance that much. Much as I like "Periodica de Ayer," it doesn't make me want to dance in the Lavoe originals. (The Junior Gonzalez cover works better for dancing, even if he's no Lavoe.)

Could just be a matter of what I've gotten used to hearing in clubs.

I can't leave out:

El Gran Combo: "Me Libere" "La Muerte" "Los Tenis" A bunch of other songs I don't know the titles of offhand.

Agreed with you! El gran combo is excellent! La Muerte is one of my favourite!
