hepcat said:now I'm back down to under 150. That's from dancing 1.25 times a week and working out a little over once a week (half hour on the bike and various lifting). None of my pants currently fit. I used to have a 34/35 waist and now I've got a 31/32 waist. -Hepcat

MissyK said:As I was watching a VERY good couple perform, I heard some rude remarks from audience members behind me about the dancers being plump. And I thought, "who the heck cares as long as you can dance well?"
I wish I had said it outloud, because they went on and on about their weight throughout the performance. Then it made me insecure. I should start losing weight before my competition next month.
For those who try to shed a few pounds before competitions/performances, how do you do it?
ChaChaMama said:I would like to start by saying that at Capital Dancesport, my partner and I were beaten in our syllabus event by a couple in which the woman is plump. In a very heavily contested pro-am latin scholarship event that happened a few heats before our event, the winner was decidedly heavy (I would guess 200+ lbs.) Things may be different for the top amateur divisions and for the professionals, but I think that at the lower levels, the dancing matters more than your body shape.
That being said, I had a baby in 2002 and did feel a need to take off some weight. I have had a lot of luck with Weight Watchers. What I like about it is that you don't have to give up any foods. It's just a sensible program of portion control and exercise. (E.g., you eat one cup of cereal at breakfast, not as much as you can pour in the bowl, or one cup of whole wheat pasta with 1/2 cup sauce, not a restaurant-style portion which can be FOUR times that!) I'm now 5'6" and around 128, which is less than I weighed pre-baby! Best of all, I've been able to maintain this weight for almost a year now.

ChaChaMama said:No, no, I gained 50 lbs while pregnant, lol!!! Believe me, no weight watching while pregnant. I enjoyed every minute of the pregnancy experience (well, except for the pushing) and didn't worry about weight gain.
Afterwards, the weight came off pretty easily...but then my eating and exercise habits fell apart (as will happen when you are constantly sleep-deprived), and I gained about 10 lbs back. So that's when I did WW.
