Good lesson, back to tweaking next pattern in syllabus for 5 of my main dances. Know them all decently, but NP was able to point out some things to work on (in practice and at parties), to really put a good polish on them.

Worked on tango walks for half an hour. Now I have to get my body accustomed to our entire tango routine the new way. This will take a lot more than half an hour.

Thanks for the thought, fasc. Found out today that my main practice partner will be moving three states away in a couple of weeks. Well, that's how it goes. I was pretty lucky in practice partners for a while.

What a tough break. Hopefully this will open the door for a new series of practice partners:)

Worst-lesson-ever
Which is what happens when you don't make time to practice. Big waste of money and entirely our fault. We will practice tonight, we will practice tonight, we will practice tonight ...

lesson on saturday really went well, focused the whole hour entirely on intl rumba, worked on new figures, i felt more grounded and did better on the hip settling so much so that i had more power on swivels and changes of directions.

Practiced foxtrot and VW last night. Finally able catch on to the rise and fall in foxtrot. VW still feels like a F1 race on dance floor to me... :(

excellent lesson yesterday ...could be that I just happened to be ravenous for one...but I felt good about not having lost much over the 5 week vacation...and he did some lines in Ft that were so yummy my teeth are still chattering, which are apparently only possible when I relax...which has been the recurrent theme for at least 6 months across all styles so I think I had better learn how to do that...more today

good lesson today. working on speed and dynamics. trying to develop more tools in my toolbox for expression in my dancing!
Latingal, Do you think that this is something that should be taught early on in a dancer's training or much later after they have developed excellent technique. My daughter has been passed over twice (and it seems like she may be passed over a 3rd time) for a tryout, because she doesn't display the speed and dynamics they are looking for. However, these champs. (in my opinion) are not seeing my daughter's technical skill and are focusing on "speed and dynamics" even though they themselves don't have the technique completely down. (I have seen their clips)

I feel like telling them to look at this clip...(search youtube)...
World Youth Latin Championships Final 2008
....and tell me if "you" are capable of dancing like this, without first developing superior technique.

Kids just seem to want to rush things, I guess.
(...a little cheese with my whine. LOL)

On a positive note...My daughter just started training at the same studio as these "champs". The instructor is very well known for teaching the kids such "dynamics". After her one private last weekend, she seems to be absorbing it like a spounge. I have a feeling that it will get interesting when they actually see her dance. (Fingers crossed).

Filling in Bronze intermediate syllabus. Learned new FT and Rumba steps last nite. Instructor pounding us on technique and styling. You know, it feels better with the CBM! Who knew?? Still, lots of fun.

I did not think of it that way initially, but you do have a good point. Thanks for putting a positive spin on it!
you're welcome...having had plenty of them myself...I have found that they usually motivate me to work harder, think differently, persist in trying to do things another way...etc...and before i know it...progress
