holy cow, luce... may the force be with you
Thanks sam. I've cut out all my other dance lessons so, I can FOCUS on February. You'll probably see me at your pro's studio Sunday practice sessions. Once I get past February, April should be a breeze - I've decided to compete in the FADS National competition in Las Vegas then.

lessons are just more of same... maintaining connection from toes up through the body to support the torso and the middle back... all the time. i feel like i'm failing miserably, but pro notices improvement so... onward we go...

you have a majorly exciting winter & spring happenin', seems... :)

DW, coach and I started the choreography for the showcase in February to "Big Spender" in addition to getting ready for Nashville Starz in January. I think Lucy and I are drinking the same water or breathing the same air. I can not wait to March so I can rest a little.

Well, despite a scheduling screw-up that was totally my fault, worked out for the best. Lesson with Rhythm pro tonight--I can has American rhumba routine! The whole thing! And despite Christmas and New Years and travel and near-total lack of sufficient sleep, I have not forgotten everything from the coaching lesson I had right before I left. I also got a nice bonus--after my lesson, I got to work with our newest pro on cha cha. I now have two full bronze routines, yay, and I like the new guy.

Its been noted many times but I still find it amazing that as you get more experienced how quickly one learns new steps - and what a small fraction of lesson time they occupy. On the other hand, perhaps because they are learned rather inoften, I find learning new steps is now a whole lot of fun.

rumba, rumba... twist around spine before moving forward, push off with standing leg... repeat, repeat, repeat... and don't abandon this concept during choreography...

amazed at how just doing this can eat up a two-lesson session in the blink of an eye.

And then you'll keep revisiting the concept over and over in lessons...and adding onto it...

ED,

You are so correct and one thing that I find very interesting is that some of the steps are the same in so many different dances and the difference been the timing.

I have found myself and DW doing more and more technical part of the dance.

Hey Sam,

I was on that situation last Saturday but the dance was Mambo. It was one of those lesson when you begin and you stop for a break and then you look at the clock an is 2 hours later. The nice thing about it is now all that body movement kind of resembles a Mambo and not like I have electricity running all over me. :bouncy:

Istn't that the greatest discovery? And then its also true for the technique. At least in W,VW,FT and QS the technique is virtually entirely transferrable. That cn the effect of making the lessons way more efficient if you try to apply what you have learned to all the other dances too and let the coach then point out where a particular action does not apply rather than where it does.

Now Tango.... really should this be a standard dance? It is so different. While some general technical aspects transfer (steps do of course) you will get into a lot of trouble if you use the same approach as above.

Ed,

Every time my teacher begin a sentence with "You dance this step before" and I must have this look in my face that you are kidding aren't you? so then he will show me the step in a different dance and he will say this is the difference between the steps.

After that for some reason that little light bulb will go on . That is one thing that I love about dancing the ability that we have to make our body adjust to perform the same steps in other dances.

I guess that is why I keep going back for more. I must be addicted to dancing...
