Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

just Came back from watching IronMan 2
Glad I didnt see it in IMAX
It was good but not as good as the first one.

Jennifer's Body with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. Much better than expected, could become a sort of 'cult classic'.
Deck Dogz, an Australian Skateboard movie with a guest appearance by Tony Hawk.

Robin Hood was fine. Fellow Aussies Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett look great together and make a nice match. You can tell that Russell appreciates Cate a lot: he was overjoyed to finally do a movie with her, and it shows. And, as with all the Ridley Scott-directed films, the cinematography is spectacular. (He's the one who also did Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, A Good Year, and American Gangster...)

Not really my first choice to go out and watch, but we had a good time. It looks like it will be a hit at the box office, especially worldwide...
Really? The previews make it look like a watered down version of Gladiator and I felt nothing at all when watching it so I guess that's just me. Reviews have been unkind because of the various deviations from Robin Hood lore so I'm thinking this is one I'll rent later on Netflix. Sad to say that because I love Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott.

Shock (1977) ~ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075651/

More of a psychological type horror which builds up throughout. I thought a lot of the ideas/jumps/scares etc used were excellent (especially the kid running upto his mum like that ;) ). Something I really like about these early horror films are the styles of camera work, vivid colours, set pieces etc.... Suspiria is the best example of the bunch if anyone has seen that?

Highly recommended and the twist at the end makes for a good film in my book. I couldn't sleep for an hour after (left the light on :( ) The young boy in this gives some really convincing evil looks and creeped me out :(

The only downside is the atrocious dubbing of the italian actors but it doesn't detract too much and you get used to it after a while. There is no sort of link between the english voice and what's happening in the film if you get my drift... sort of emotionless! Like they are reading from a script (well they will be I guess!) and not watching the film at the same time.

The Secret in Their Eyes.

It was...beautiful. It was nicely constructed, visually appealing, interesting, and amazing. Brutally shocking in some parts, but the better for it. The critical analyser in me loves the little things they put in that all fit together at the end. And, speaking of which, the ending was fabulous. Surprising, certainly unexpected, but rational. And creepy. Pretty damn creepy.

And wow. Very highly recommended

To Lioness...

Lioness, you got me intrigued! Well-written review!

Thirst (1979) ~ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080016/

Quite interesting this one. Set in Australia in the late 70's. The story centres around a woman who belongs to a dynasty of vampires (she doesn't know).

The film opens up with her sleeping in a coffin ~ dracula style which is to be her destiny ~ so its like reading the back page of a book then starting from the beginning

Starts out with her being abducted and her subsequent brain washing to get her to love blood at a facility where blood is manufactured from people who have also fallen foul to brain washing :( Nice twist to the story at the end and some nice effects in certain parts I thought to give it a bit of creepyness.

Not that bad overall, David Hemmings holds the whole movie up :D
