No, I have been thinking about it, because I just want to get away and start over on a new path. I was going back and forth because this person wanted me to stay around.

Sweetheart. I really, truly mean sweetheart and say it with affection.

Wherever you go, there you are. Joining the military will not automatically give you a new start. A new start will start inside of you when you choose change, and unfortunately not before.

This is bull. The bad guys screw you. The nice guys screw you. They all screw you. I give up. Military.

Hoo-rah! Which branch are you considering? What speciality are you wanting to strike for? If you're more inclined to being a specialist in a technical field, then I would recommend either Air Force or Navy, having been in both myself. If you're looking for combat experience, then Army or Marines would offer you more opportunity -- after all, in the Air Force, we'd remain on-base and send the officers out into combat.

However, if you're looking for the military to help you solve personal problems, then you need to think twice. Your personal problems will follow you into the service and could cause you even worse trouble. Yes, military service can help you to grow up and to find your way, but it also offers you more spectacular ways to crash and burn: screw up in the military to the point where you get a less-than-honorable and it follows you for the rest of your civilian life. And additional concerns in the interpersonal arena: fraternization. Officer-enlisted, senior enlisted-junior enlisted are big no-no's. Oh, and the jerks you're fleeing in civilian life ... they're in the military too. At least service policies try to address and minimize sexual harrassment and other interpersonal issues, but there are jerks in uniform too.

Maybe you should look into getting your **** straight (military terminology when I first enlisted 35 years ago) before expecting somebody else (eg, the military) to do it for you.

BTW, don't assume that I've got my own **** together in that area. I just don't assume that anyone else will do it for me, nor that I can run away to find the solution.

And, in the military there are many infractions of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) that could easily result in loss of pay, demotions, and even confinement behind bars that are not in any way against civilian laws (i.e., not showing up to work on time, making work-related mistakes, improper personal relationships.) I applaud your consideration of military service (best decision I every made) but please ensure you're making the decision to join for the right reasons.

I have an ache around my left kidney...

lotsa fresh lemon juice & lotsa fresh water help dissolve calcifications in the kidney, which cause ache-age. good precaution, as the passing of kidney stones is reputed to be amongst the most painful experiences in humankind. buy lemons. :)

Can vouch for the horrendous pain of kidney stones. Had 'em myself, was hell. Dad had them, was doubled over, vomiting, sweating from the pain. Watched him go white as a sheet. Perhaps the only time I've seen someone walk into an ER, not visibly in immediate danger, and been RUSHED into the back. They are definitely to be avoided at all costs.

That said, I've also had kidney-ish pain as a prelude to a kidney infection. Also very unpleasant.

Moral of the story: go to a doctor.

Moral of the story: go to a doctor.
and still... there are pro-active things one can do to maintain one's health to avoid the need for going. for example, add nascent iodine or noni to one's water as a natural antibacterial if one is concerned an infection could be developing.

just sayin'.

I certainly agree with the idea of prevention, certainly. And there are plenty of ways to do that. (And I have gone those routes, multiple times.)

But IME, when things have gotten to the point where you have kidney pain then things are beyond the point where you can DIY, so to speak. Every time I've gotten to that point it has been accompanied by high fever, chills, body aches and (in one instance) a frightening degree of incoherence. Just sayin'.

If it truly is a kidney stone...I'd suggest going to a doctor if only to get pain meds to deal with it. Cuz...wow. Although if it's severe enough and there is actual blockage...again, a doctor can probably deal with things (at that point) better than anything else.

Also, given internet wossname, I'm not comfortable giving out medical advice. If someone is truly worried about a health issue, I suggest going to someone who is trained to deal with it.

not sayin' it will work for everyone, there are different sizes and different types of stones. but most are calcium calcifications that apparently respond to citric acid. if someone's doubled-over & very sick, as you were, that's one thing. if someone has a slight ache... that's another, where one may very well be able to take some pro-active measure. the approach has worked for patients who have gone to the doctor, had large stones identified by x-ray.

for my part, i'm not giving out medical advice. i'm sharing information. every individual has to make his.her own decision. IME doctors are often not a good source of *all* options available to a patient. they only know what they've been taught, and natural methods are usually not their expertise or counsel.

knowledge can signify personal empowerment. :)

and FWIW...i've used this particular information successfully to maintain my own kidney health when uncomfortable symptoms flared up.
