Pro-Am Dancing (Amateur style or Pro style?)

I have done a bit of pro-am, but now compete as amateur. Often the choice to do pro-am vs amateur is influenced by less dance-specific situations (ie- budget or if you have a partner available or not). Locally our amateur scene is a lot more prolific than pro-am, which also was an appealing...

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

That's what I do too. I have a ratty old pair I use all the time, then the nice pair I only wear for comps.

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

I've really wanted to try the Paoul brand... i never seemed to get the chance to get my hands on some. Although I think you can order from their site now?

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

Glad to be helpful! LOL yeah it's tough going through that process of finding just the right brand, especially when you live in an area that doesn't have a place you can just go and try some on (I actually think most of us are in this boat LOL). I've always loved the Aida latin shoe but when I...

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

Hahah no worries - i can't help you with some of those becuase I haven't tried everything (even though when you're finding "just the right shoe", it feels like you've tried everything! At least that's what my bank account says...) The rockslides feel wider and with a rounder toe than Supadance...

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

I love the heel placement for balance on the Aida latin shoes. I used to dance in RR kalaharis and while i liked their heel placement, their slim heel is really thin and I often broke the heel (like it would snap in the middle, inside the satin). But I do love the slim Aida heel. I've noticed...

    Competition Hair

I can get my hair shiny AF, it's just getting it smooth and looking line one of those christmas tree ornaments: I combed the hair a LOT once it was in the pony tail, brushing every bump towards the end. I tried a boar brush too. It seemed to be a lot better than my attempts in the past. Not...

    ballgown cleaning

Actually the vodka works great. I didn't even bother diluting it. I put some [cheaper] vodka in a spray bottle and spray the clothes. I do it to my workout clothes too. :D

Are there a lot of Amateur couples in these comps?

You'll spot me - It's very likely I'll be the most tattooed person there LOL

    Competition Hair

HAHAHAH true - i should try BEFORE the day of the comp! I actually can get a really great shine no problem (finally).. in fact this is one of my favourite hairsprays: But the smoothness of all the hairs going in one direction without bumps for funniness has been something I haven't achieved...

    Competition Hair

Hmmm. I have a fine tooth comb, and a boar bristle brush (that I don't think i have ever used LOL). I'll give those a try next weekend ;-P

    Competition Hair

I'm having trouble getting the slick-down part looking *this* nice: A friend of mine says the trick is to keep running the comb over it in between hairspray shots... she says she lightly dips the comb in water and goes over the hair, then hairsprays, then repeats. I haven't tried that yet but...

    Competitions that allow private videotaping

That's exactly what I was thinking... something along those lines.

    Competitions that allow private videotaping

I always assumed it was something to do with the organizers, because they decide to bring in a vidoegrapher for the event and they want to ensure they'll have business. Is this the way it works? I think UBC Gala lets us video too :D

How Many Hours should Shoes Last

LOL!!! ^^^^ Sometimes vendors increase their price, sometimes not. Often I think it more often has to do with the specific competition.... competitions require vendors to give them 15% (or whatever) of their total sales for the weekend, some only require a table rental. There even is the odd...
