To date or not to date

How often do you dance with your ex? Do you still practice together or go to workshops as dance partners? Or is it just only short “tango business talk” when needed, or simply only “hello” and “goodbye” without too much interaction? Do your ex’s friends dance with you?

To date or not to date

I have several dating opportunities within my tango scene, but I’m hesitant to start a relationship there as I've invested too much time and money in to this dance. Most of the time, when couples break up, they stop dancing together and avoid each other. What has your observation been? Would you...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

Thank you JournalInTime, So, you are going to classes which are called Leader's techniques, or suggest taking just basic Beginner Fundamentals class. Are there any specific Leader's techniques exercises that you found the most beneficial for your tango development. Thanks.

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

So, it’s been 2 years as a leader. Now, I have around 10 moves for vals, milonga, and vals. I don’t dance combos anymore and it is becoming somewhat improvisational based on the music, although with elements that I typically use. I am curious if i should continue drop in to group classes anymore...

What Is Tango Doing Right/Wrong: Recruiting and Retaining

As a leader, it took me 1 year to go to my first milonga. I realized I would not get a lot of tandas. Then I waited another 6 months, and started going to milongas at my own studio. I am almost at 2 years now of learning tango, and I've just started expanding and going to other milongas in town...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

Well, i do dance salsa and bachata. However, in my city, most of the salsa and bachata dancers are people that are less than 40 years of age. Women above 40 don’t like sensual moves. In an any case, i found sensual moves hard to lead. Most of my bachata is salsa based. Anyway, i am aging out of...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

People that can learn on their own by going to just group classes are probably very talented, or have some background in dance (ballet, ballroom). I know a lot of people that go to just many group classes with different instructors, and I haven't noticed that they have progressed very much. I am...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

How did you find private classes 1:1 with instructor vs bringing partner and just splitting the cost in terms of the progress? May be a silly question, as I feel that with 1:1 I get all the attention rather than 50/50 (in some cases if partner's level is not equal, it may be even 80/20). But, as...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

Curious if there is a playlist on Spotify of tango/vals/milonga songs that would likely be at any Milonga. Of course DJs can be different and there can be variations, but I am talking about the songs that statistically have the highest chance to show up. I've noticed that good dancers seem to...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

My instructor gave me some sense of how it feels to be a follower. He led basic, cross, front ocho, back ocho during the song. I did not know what move to expect, but it felt easy. I was just going with my senses. He joked i was a natural follower. I joked that following seemed easy. He replied...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

Not really, I don't plan to become an instructor or a follower. It is more to may be understand how the follower feels to perfect my lead moves. Otherwise, my main specialty would be leading. Thank you.

Milonga vs practica stopped mattering for me much, as i usually dance with the same people. I actually prefer practicas, which look the same as milonga for us, except they can give you feedback. Milonga we just dance.

Will wait for festivals. We have marathons but they are expensive and i was told only for intermediate dancers. I don’t want to pay and sit. Usually, if i see that i danced with everyone i could, I leave. I go to practicas, milongas, group classes, and privates. I found privates to have the...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

So, it’s been almost 1.5 years as a leader dancing 3-4 times a week. Still keep going. Not everyone is dancing with me yet. But i can hold for 1-2 hrs during milonga mostly dancing with people I usually dance depending who comes. My instructor rates me as high level beginner. He said i am...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

My closed embrace has improved significantly, and I only started walking to the music (different instruments...). I've taken intermediate level courses, but just walking feels so good, that I've given up all the moves. I may just do an occasional ocho and that is it. I even wonder should I be...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

For private lessons, if I am a leader, is it better to go to Leader(male) instructor or follower instructor. I mean all instructors learn both roles for teaching purposes, but when they dance at milongas or practicas, they usually dance in their main role. So, should leaders go to leaders?

Thanks. Is there a video about this projecting technique to watch and apply? Having an understanding life partner is good. It can go the opposite way. Partner doesn't like dancing and taking lessons and get jealous at husband going dancing in the evening with different women, and may request...

Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

Thank you for the replies. Very interesting discussion. For shoes, I use ballroom shoes without welts. Are those ones not enough? I am too old to perform and interested only in social dancing. By show tango, do you mean ballroom Tango? We have ballroom studios as well which teach ballroom Vals...
