Hi,

I danced AT with live orchestra two times.
Some ladies said it was difficult, I say divine.

Only then I am more focused on partner and the music.
Partly because tandas are made of popular songs, and I know them by heart.

Hi Mladenac, I know, I feel the same, but it seems to be a matter of taste for a lot of dancers. I would prefer any chance for life music, but some don´t. For men/leaders it seems to be difficult, bc. besides the known crunchpoints in leading, another will come, correspondency with life music.

Of course, it does depend on the band, but in general, I love live music. The sound is so much better than 70 year old recordings. I also love the challenge of seeing how musical you can dance, when you are not sure what is coming next. It help does help if the band is playing with the dancers in mind, and not simply playing for themselves (as is what happens with some bands).

Live music in a milonga is good, only if the band can play dance-able music.

I have been to so many milongas where there are live bands, but the arrangements used are either arranged for listening, or, the band can play sheet music, but have no idea how to dance a tango. This makes for milonga with a very cold and flat feel.

On the other hand, there are also a lot of tango bands, whose members dance, and/or know how to make the music appropriately dance-able for a milonga. This is when the music and dancing become really good.

If a band plays with dancers in mind it is divine. If half of their repertoire consists of Piazolla ,it’s time to get a seat at the bar.
I don’t know why German musicians are so obsessed by Piazolla, must be fun to play.

Piazzolla wrote some really good music, but unfortunately it's not all easy to dance to. A lot of his stuff is what I would describe as a fusion of tango with other genres (typically either Jazz or Classical).

maybe they are only musicians so they cannot adapt music for dancing.

I did’n meant that Piazolla wrote bad music. I would rather say he wrote a lot of dramatic music and dramatic music calls for dramatic figures. Dramatic figures demand a lot of space and ability, more than you will find at the usual milonga. Therefore, when Piazolla is played, the bar is the best place to be. Enjoy the artful music in the air and the drama on the floor.
