Emeline Rochefeuille

What is a choreographed routine?
Isn't that what non-Westies use when competing? ;)

But more seriously, while Showcase, Classic, and Rising Star divisions are usually choreographed, there are an order of magnitude more entrants for Strictly and at least twice again as many for Jack and Jill, both of which are explicitly improvisational. Similarly in the Lindy Hop world, where the majority of events don't even have anything other than Jack and Jill (mostly called Mix and Match these days).

Oh, that's nice! When I stopped watching Lindy comps, it seemed like 90% of the strictly couples had most of a phrase pre-choreographed and they were bloody well going to do their lift regardless of whether it fit the music.

Youtube content is dominated by the big professionally-run events, but the volunteer-organized and -run lindy exchanges almost always are limited to J&J - if they have comps at all (PittStop doesn't).

And shortly before the pandemic, there was indeed pushback in the community about the increasing number of couples obviously dancing pre-choreographed portions.

This is a great new performance from Emeline and Jakub to Roxanne

I love the little slide he did assisted by her. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that movie before.

Once again, I was fascinated by a video of Emeline and Jakub. What I find particularly interesting is that they're evolving. You no longer see the bachatero and the Westie. They've created something new.
