I'm creating my own small Dance studio

The dimensions are the Width 9’4” 1/2 and the Length: 8’6” 1/2. It could be tiny bit more than that. I'm not good at measuring things.

I also want to know what type of dancing floor it should be. I want it to be handled a bit in Ballroom dancing and Line dancing.

I need your help. I know I need it to be slideable.

Is this in your home? That's going to accommodate about 3 dancers total. It's a size you can practice yourself. But I don't think it's reasonable for a commercial dance studio.

For a space this tiny, there's not much point in overthinking or overbuilding it. A basic hardwood floor (finished in place, not pre-finished) will do just fine.

I have heard the terms used interchangeably. How do sprung and floating wood floors differ? Is one "better" than the other for dancing?
They don't differ by much.

A floating floor is any setup where the boards are not fastened directly to the subfloor. This is usually achieved by fastening the floorboards to one another so that the entire surface is one big piece. Because ultimately, you do need a gap at the wall to allow for expansion, so you can't use the walls to brace it.

A sprung floor is a setup where the subfloor materials are designed to be shock- or sound-absorbent. This is usually accomplished by laying a cushioning material over the concrete or wooden base. Thus, a sprung floor is usually just a special kind of floating floor, which is why the terms are frequently used interchangeably in a dance context.

As to which is better? For dancers, definitely the sprung floor. Shock absorption is extremely helpful for the joints.

It's actually 10X8 Dimensions
We've got a dance practice area in my wife's sewing work cabin ('she-shed') about 4mx4m, so slightly larger. For that size it wasn't worth doing a sprung floor - just standard Karndean wood-look smooth flooring with insulation underneath. We dance Argentine Tango, so space is adequate. Useful additions were a mirror roughly the size of the wall, internet access for sound from local media server. Can also use video - we used it for Zoom lessons during COVID. So space for webcam on tripod. Also aircon for winter/summer use.

Just have to tidy my wife's dress-making equipment out of the way to use it.
