There are individuals who are mentioned as being influential in Tango.

There are also individuals, the vast majority, who are not influential in tango and are not even mentioned. And there are individuals, more numerous than the ones ones who are mentioned, who are influential but not mentioned (No names, because then they would not be unmentioned any more). And also, much rarer, there are individuals who are mentioned as not being influential in tango.

IMHE, those who were the biggest influences (and made a difference) in my dancing were never the big name people. They have been obscure teachers, and other dancers who have given me small tidbits of information that tied together (other) large amounts of random tango thoughts in a way that made sense.

I would like to discuss this more openly: So what is influential? the number of students, the number of teachers that adopt the didactics, the number of traces left in the style of other dancers, the presence in the media..

Tango is changing all the time, so influential can work in either direction: pushing forward new developments or it can mean cutting away all that uncontrolled growth, concentrating, and standardization.
