Light Sleeper, rueda is certainly real, although it isn't quite as popular as it was in the 90s. Back then salsa clubs with rueda were on every corner like Starbucks. On the plus side, NY and LA styles have picked up here. You have to know where to go to find rueda and it's danced mostly after mid-night. Salsa and tango dancers are night owls.
I was in Cafe Mystique last January. It has closed a couple times over the years. It's never been the same since they had to move out of the Hilton Hotel around a decade ago.
There is dancing in Key West, but it's mostly done by female impersonators at the gay clubs.
They don't have much of the organized lead and follow social dancing.
