tango.info for your music library

If you're starting (or overhauling) a tango music library on computer, take a look at http://eng.tango.info/music, the web's most comprehensive database on recorded tango music.

For each album it has a unique ID ("TIN" http://wiki.tango.info/mul/TIN), being the barcode number if the album has one (e.g. on the CD back cover), or a tango.info assigned number if not. As you copy each CD to computer, it's a really good idea to record this TIN e.g. as an album title suffix, making things much easier down the line e.g. when you realise there are three different D'Arienzo CDs published under the title La Cumparsita!

And linking to tracks e.g. for DJing is a lot simpler and more reliable if you name the disc files using this scheme: http://wiki.tango.info/mul/TINT-based_filing. This also lets you source the track labelling (title, artist etc.) from the tango.info database, using this method: http://wiki.tango.info/mul/tango.info_mass_tagging .

Thanks a lot for these infos, but the sorting order of each item is differerent form the entries in my iTunes (app) library

Sorry to be thick, but could you explain? E.g. what does this stop you doing? Neither tango.info or iTunes individually has a fixed sorting order anyway.

there is no facility in iTunes for fuzzy matching. I dont want to have to rename thousands of tracks into the precise .info format in order to find out whether I have got duplicates

Hi chris, I can actually modify the order in the playlist window. But when I export (or inport files either in .txt or .xml formate) the order is the build-in.

Um... finding duplicates is not something tango.info provides or requires.

Personally I've no use for finding duplicates so haven't any suggestions on this. What I do have is the need to find other recordings of the same performance i.e. same title, artist and year, so to find the best recording for DJing. tango.info helps this by normalising my titles e.g. for El Aristocrata and Susheta referring to the same work, and my artist names e.g. Miguel Caló possibly and his Orchestra of the Stars. Not to mention eliminating typos and formatting variations, of course.
