Your favorite song to learn to dance salsa

Celia Cruz is an icon and legend. Love her music! And if you want to see just how motivated I can get, play "La Negra Tiene Tumbao". I can't help myself from moving.

I just love how that song brings together so many elements of different latin dance/music influences.

..The salsa rhythm rarely varies from quick, quick, slow (1,2,3-5,6,7), so dancers know..
Do you mean the rhythm of the music or the step pattern? However, I think within common salsa pieces there are parts with different rhythms so that you can mix the styles:

1-2-3 (pause) 5-6-7 (pause) =LA
..2-3-4 (pause) 6-7-8 (pause) =PR
1-2-3 (pause) 5-6-7 (pause) =NY

I was referring to the step pattern. As you noted, different styles of salsa may move on different counts, but the step pattern is fairly consistent. There are quick steps and a pause.

(Variation in step patterns can definitely happen in shines and various styling choices or musical accents, but dancers return to the tried and true step pattern to get back in sync and dance together.)
