Welcome to DF, Kindra. There are at least 3 of us local to the area who post here. (myself, Beto, and Vin).

It's a pretty large and spread out scene. IMHO, the best dancers in town dance On2, but the majority will dance On1 as well.

You've got a choice every night of the week:

Mondays - Clarendon Grill or Lucky Bar
Tuesdays - Barking Dog
Wednesdays - Zanzibar
Thursday - Habana Village
Fridays - Divinos
Saturdays - Club Yucca
Sundays - umm... I forget

So it pretty much depends on which night of the week you like going out, as well as what part of the area you live in.

If you like, drop me a PM, and I can give you more specifics.

Beto & Vin, care to add? I know I've left off Lulu's, H2O, Club 5, the monthly Stuck On Salsa parties, etc.

(and I'm assuming that since you posted this in the salsa section, you wanted info on the salsa club scene right?)

Thanks for the info and for the welcome to the board! Looking forward to some good conversation. :)

Welcome to the site, Kindra!

Hey TJ, yeah Lulu's is only fun if you've got a group of friends going. If you go by yourself, it might be empty or might be packed. Barking Dog is great on Tuesdays and a safe choice.

H20 = never been and I have not heard one good thing about it from anyone so that makes me wary.

Club 5 = Haven't been yet but I've heard the music is really good.

The SOS parties vary. Those are interesting in terms of who shows up (especially the out of towners from Boston, NC, NY or elsewhere). The downside is that sometimes the crowds are HUGE. If the venue's big enough, then great. If not, you're dealing with the salsa mosh pit which can prevent you from having a good time.

Sundays? Nada. And yes I'm aware of the Chevy Chase Ballroom socials. Like Lulu's, that's only fun if you've got a small group of friends to go with. Otherwise, you're better off getting your fix during the week.

Since the three of us know each other I don't think it will surprise you that I agree with most of what has been said. The only caveat I would add is that there is alot more latin parties going on in the dc area but the ones that TJ mentioned are the ones that most of the people we know go to and tend to play alot more salsa than anything else.

Oh and welcome to DF Kindra

Odds are, if it's danced anywhere, you can find it here.

In my opinion, the best dancers in town dance On2. There's still plenty of good dancers On1 (and most of those aforementioned On2 dancers can dance On1). And there are several rueda groups around, too.

There aren't many Cuban-style dancers (ala Eric Freeman) in the area, but Casino is still pretty close.

Let us know when you're coming!

oh itll be a while :( first got a year in bologna, italy, planned. hear there's some good salsa there too! might have to wait a year with it all though, to save up money, but ill get there, eventually, and ill be sure to get in touch with you all!
