Chocolate Thread

Just out of curiosity, what kind of hot chocolate do you make, when you make it at home? I have a feeling the Swiss Miss I drink is the hot chocolate equivalent of instant coffee (in other words an abomination to choco-philes  ) But I love it nonetheless. Besides. It has mini marshmallows, so it can't be all bad.

Carnation's Hot Chocolate Pack + whipping cream! Yummy!!

Next time i think i'll try making it with dark chocolate - except melting the chocolate is such a big pain...

I drink Swiss Miss too, though I prefer to buy plain and add my own marshmallows.

I did finally get my chocolate covered strawberries. I dipped them on Saturday evening, they were gone gone gone by Sunday afternoon. My kidlets had never had them, between the three of us, we inhaled them.

Trader Joe's Organic Fair-Trade Cocoa Mix

or

Ghirardelli Ground Chocolate and Cocoa

or

mix a couple of spoonfuls of good cocoa with a spoonful of sugar, add a bit of hot milk, stir to make a paste, add more milk and stir to blend

I think I usually drink swiss miss, but whatever type I have usually is fine by me. :)

I think Keelzorz was raving about her home-made hot chocolate a while back on this thread.... and I can say that so far hers takes the cake. (definately better than the packet mixes):)

I had a feeling you'd have a good recommendation. :D Maybe I'll get some Ghirardelli for when I have guests. I'm strictly no class, when it comes to chocolate. But I'm not above creating an illusion for my guests.

Usually use powedered something or other. Sometimes I buy the individual packets of mint-cocoa--I think Land O' Lakes makes them, or similar company. Those are good.

I will always remember my mom's "mexican" hot chocolate. Made with a nice bittersweet chocolate bar, milk, and lots of cinnamon.

Oh yeah -- Ibarra Mexican Chocolate. Love it. Broke my blender using it once because I didn't actually let the hot milk melt the chocolate before I turned the blender on.

I drink hot chocolate in vast quantities: breakfast, before I go to bed, after parties at 3am, whenever and wherever. I have found a very cool chocolate mixture in my local supermarket that is promoted by the supermarket. So I take that, it's economical and yummy.

unsweetend cocoa powder? Have anyone tried making hot chocolate by melting chunks of chocolate??

I'm tempted to try it but clean up is no fun - scrubbing burnt chocolate from the pan is a real pain.

Yep, that's my mom's hot chocolate. You can mostly avoid burnt chocolate by putting it over low heat and adding some milk. Might even want to try doing it in the double boiler.

Oh also, I meant unsweetend chocolate bar not powder.
