The role of teaching in improving one's own pro dancing

Good dancing isn't patterns. Its quality of movement, understanding connection, moving from foot to foot etc You better believe I work on all of this on every lesson I teach. I spend all day practicing. I make my students do it as well. I think it's vital and when you teach 10 lessons a day it...

    Cuban Motion

Sounds like you were taught america Cuban motion versus now Latin hip action. Very different in theory and practice. Before saying you learned it completely wrong perhaps you should show us. Rhythm action and Latin action should be danced differently.

What is it like to be a traveling coach/judge/examiner?

Studio owner here and I also do some traveling coaching. You would be very surprised how little money it takes to open a studio. And if you find a desperate enough landlord you can probably get it built out on their dime. Its called tenant improvement funds. With a 25% stake you are going to...

    Connection in standard dances

Both are correct. I teach both. It really depends on which school of thought your teachers have learned from. Some call it the old Russian style and some refer to the lower rib cage and higher connection as the Italian style.

Should professional dancers including teachers dance more socially?

We actually rent out the studio every Saturday for salsa parties and we also rent it out to three different west coast swing clubs. I would like to have ballroom socials very active in our studio as well. So right now I'm doing all the hard work trying to build it, dancing every dance and...
